Adhikari's defeat was part of Trinamool's strategy, my biggest mistake: Humayun Kabir

In West Bengal, Janata Anin Party founder and MLA from Bharatpur assembly constituency, Humayun Kabir, said on Saturday that being part of Trinamool Congress's strategy to defeat Congress's former MP and former state president Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the Baharampur seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections was one of the biggest mistakes of his life.
Notably, senior Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury has been a Member of Parliament from the Baharampur Lok Sabha constituency for five consecutive terms. In the 2024 elections, he was defeated by Trinamool Congress candidate and former cricketer Yusuf Pathan by a margin of 85,022 votes.
Speaking to the media on Saturday, Kabir said that the nomination of Gujarat resident Yusuf Pathan from Baharampur was unfortunate for the voters there. He alleged that after being elected as an MP, Yusuf Pathan has rarely visited Baharampur.
Kabir said that even after winning the election, he did not feel the need to thank the voters. He said, "Defeating the five-time former MP was a big mistake for the people of Baharampur. My biggest mistake was being part of the process of defeating him," he said. He also said that he regrets his mistake and will play an active role in ensuring Yusuf Pathan's decisive defeat in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections.
It is worth mentioning that Humayun Kabir was suspended from the Trinamool Congress after a controversy related to the proposed Babri mosque foundation stone laying ceremony. He then formed his own political party, Janata Anin Party.
Kabir has emphasized the need for an alliance with all non-Bharatiya Janata Party and non-Trinamool Congress parties ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. However, his initiative has received limited support so far, and there has been no progress in talks with other parties except the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
