Hamas does not want to rule, agrees to formation of technocrats' government body

3 min read

Gaza: A senior Hamas leader said on Friday while talking to media representatives that Hamas is not eager to continue its rule over Gaza. The leader further said that Hamas has already agreed to form a committee of technocrats who will oversee the administrative affairs of Gaza in the future. A Hamas official said the group has already proposed all the names that will be part of this technocrat body, as there is already an agreement internally on the list of technocrats.

However, he also said that despite this, the negotiations are ongoing, while Israel is creating obstacles. The purpose of these obstacles is to create problems in implementing the consensus that needs to happen on the ground.

Regarding the international stability force, the Hamas official said that the deployment of this stability force will be purely for monitoring the ceasefire and will have no relation to the administrative affairs of Gaza. Also, its role should be kept away from any potential disputes that may arise between the different parties.

He said that the mediator countries also support that the international stability force will be limited to monitoring and its deployment will be for matters related to the ceasefire.

Recall that as a result of the ceasefire agreement made with the help of the United States, a ceasefire has been in place in Gaza since October 10. Although both parties continue to accuse each other of violating the ceasefire agreement, the Israeli army has killed hundreds of Palestinians by bombing dozens of times despite implementing the ceasefire agreement.

During the ongoing series of Israeli attacks on southern Syria, the Israeli army re-entered the village of Saida Al-Hanout, near Al-Quneitra, on Friday and made new incursions. According to the Syrian government news agency "SANA", Israeli army vehicles, including three Hummers, two white-colored Hi-Lux, and one black-colored van, entered the village of Saida Al-Hanout, but it is not yet known whether they set up a checkpoint in the area or not.

The day before, a unit of three Israeli army vehicles reached the entrance to the village of Western Samadaniyah, and another patrol party advanced on the road to Sad Al-Mentarrah. Israel also targeted the eastern region of Tal Al-Ahmar in southern Al-Quneitra with several artillery shells.

Since the fall of the former Syrian regime last year, Israel has been deploying its army and military equipment in southern Syria and has crossed the buffer zone established under the 1974 demarcation at several points, including the strategic observation post of Jabal Al-Sheikh.

According to Obaida Ghadban, a strategic researcher at the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Israel has carried out more than a thousand airstrikes since the fall of the Bashar Al-Assad regime on December 8, 2024. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says he wants to establish a non-military strip from Damascus to Jabal Al-Sheikh.

Six rounds of negotiations between Syrian and Israeli officials, mediated by the United States, have also failed to reach the desired security agreement for stability in the border area. According to the news agency "Reuters", these negotiations have been suspended since September 2025.
