IPL 2026: Rohit Sharma is the fittest and strongest player right now: Aakash Chopra
Former Indian cricketer and renowned commentator Aakash Chopra has made a significant statement regarding Mumbai Indians' star batsman Rohit Sharma's fitness and his role in the team. He believes that Rohit is currently in the best physical form of his career and that using him merely as a 'batter' is not in the team's favor.
While speaking on a special show 'Game Plan', Aakash Chopra said if you are fit, you should play the entire match, not come in as a substitute. An opener is not used to sitting out and watching for 20 overs. Rohit Sharma is currently the fittest, fastest, and perhaps the strongest player; therefore, he should be on the field for the entire 40 overs.
Aakash Chopra further stated that Mumbai Indians can only capitalize on Rohit Sharma's expertise if he is present on the field during fielding as well. Former off-spinner Harbhajan Singh has also opposed using Rohit Sharma as a '12th player'. He advised current captain Hardik Pandya, saying Rohit has been a great leader, and his presence on the field boosts the team's morale.
According to Harbhajan, during the crucial moments of the match when the captain has to make quick and important decisions, Rohit Sharma can be the best support for Hardik Pandya. It is worth noting that in the recent matches, Rohit Sharma was used as an 'impact player', which has raised continuous questions from cricket experts. Now, it remains to be seen whether Rohit Sharma will be in action for the full 40 overs when Mumbai Indians begin their journey on April 1.
