Victory marks end of Australia's journey
Australia defeated Oman by 9 wickets in the 40th match of the T20 World Cup after a one-sided contest. Although Australia concluded the event with this victory, it was only their second win in the tournament, which resulted in their failure to qualify for the next stage and subsequent elimination from the World Cup.
The match commenced with Australia winning the toss and opting to bowl first. The Kangaroos' bowlers left Oman's batsmen helpless from the start. Oman's entire team was bowled out for a mere 104 runs in 16.4 overs. Apart from Aaqib Ilyas (32 runs), no other player delivered a notable performance. Seven players from the team failed to reach double figures. Spinner Adam Zampa claimed 4 wickets, while Xavier Bartlett and Glenn Maxwell dismissed 2 players each.
Australia achieved the easy target of 105 runs in just 9.4 overs, losing only one wicket. Mitchell Marsh played an aggressive innings, scoring an unbeaten 64 runs off 33 balls with 7 fours and 4 sixes. Travis Head played a rapid innings of 32 runs off 19 balls. Josh Inglis remained not out on 12 runs.
The World Cup was overall disappointing for Australia. They won only two of their four group matches, which led to the former champion team failing to advance to the Super 8 stage. The convincing win against Oman served as merely a consolatory farewell for them.
