Jaipur, December 26 (Agency). A dispute over a mosque near the central bus stand in Chomu city, located in the rural area of Jaipur, turned violent on Friday morning. Six police personnel were injured in stone-pelting by rioters. The injured were admitted to the hospital and their condition is stated to be stable.
According to the police, the dispute arose over the removal of stones placed on the roadside near the mosque. On Thursday evening, a meeting was held between representatives of the Muslim community and the police administration, in which an agreement was reached to remove the stones. Later, work on constructing a boundary wall by installing iron railings was started, which was opposed by some people, leading to a tense situation.
As the situation worsened, some people started pelting stones at the police personnel deployed at the site. To control the situation, additional police force was called in from nearby police stations, including Chomu, Harmaara, Vishwakarma, and Daulatpura. The police used mild force and tear gas shells to control the crowd. As soon as the incident was reported, senior officials from Jaipur, including Additional Police Commissioner Dr. Rajeev Pachar, DCP West Hanuman Prasad, and Additional DCP Rajesh Gupta, reached the site and took stock of the situation. The authorities have appealed to the local population to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, Chomu Police Station in-charge Pradeep Sharma stated that the stones on the road were removed with mutual consent and appealed to the public not to spread any misleading information. He warned that strict legal action would be taken against those spreading rumors through social media or other means. He said the police are investigating the entire matter and identifying those involved in the stone-pelting. Action will be taken against those responsible in accordance with the law.
After the incident, the administration has taken strict measures to maintain law and order and prevent the spread of rumors. As part of this, mobile internet and social media services have been temporarily suspended in the Chomu area. According to an order issued by the Jaipur Divisional Commissioner, 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G mobile data services, bulk SMS, and social media platforms, including WhatsApp, Facebook, and X, will remain suspended from 7 am to 7 pm on December 26. However, voice calls and broadband services will function normally on December 27. Currently, a large police force is deployed in the area, and the situation is under control. The administration has appealed to the public to maintain peace and avoid spreading rumors.
