7 high-speed rail corridors to be developed in the country: Suresh Prabhu
Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the development of seven high-speed rail corridors in the country while presenting the central budget 2026-27 in Parliament. She said these corridors will function as 'connectors of development' between cities and promote environmentally sustainable passenger transportation systems. The proposed high-speed rail corridors will connect Mumbai-Pune, Pune-Hyderabad, Hyderabad-Bengaluru, Hyderabad-Chennai, Chennai-Bengaluru, Delhi-Varanasi, and Varanasi-Siliguri. These projects will strengthen connectivity between various states and key economic zones.
The Finance Minister said the government is laying special emphasis on increasing the capacity of trains and developing modern rail infrastructure. These high-speed corridors will provide better connectivity to industrial, technological, cultural, and religious sectors, giving a new impetus to economic activities.
