The Congress party has decided to launch a nationwide "Save the Vote, Save the Nation" campaign from October 25 to November 25 against vote rigging, collect information on names removed from voter rolls to restore them through door-to-door contact, and hold a large rally in Delhi on November 1.
Congress General Secretary (Organization) K. C. Venugopal and Communications In-charge J. Ram Ramesh announced this on Tuesday at a press conference at the party headquarters, Indira Bhavan, following a meeting with party general secretaries, in-charges, and state Congress presidents. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, former President Rahul Gandhi, and other leaders shared their views during the meeting, which lasted approximately two and a half hours.
Leaders stated that the issue of vote rigging would be raised through the "Safe Democracy March" with district-level protests until October 8. A district-level protest will be held on October 8, followed by similar protests at the block level from October 10 to 20. During this period, Congress workers and senior leaders will conduct block-level marches and organize cycle yatra. Party workers will distribute pamphlets during Navratri events to inform people about the issue. They stated that the "Save the Vote, Save the Nation" campaign will be conducted across the country from October 25 to November 25. During this time, Congress workers will visit the homes of individuals whose names were removed from voter rolls to collect their details and attempt to reinstate them in the voter list. A large rally will be held at Ram Leela Maidan in Delhi on November 1, with allies of the INDIA bloc invited to attend. On the occasion of Constitution Day, people will be appealed to reach Delhi on November 25 and 26 through the "Delhi Chalao Yatra" and "Save the Nation, Save the Vote" rally. The demand for restoring the names of removed voters will be prominently raised during this period.
Mr. Venugopal said that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have given clear instructions to party leaders to launch an aggressive and continuous nationwide campaign as part of the "Save the Vote, Save the Nation" initiative. He stated that this movement will continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar is removed from office and reforms are made to the electoral system.
He said that illegally depriving a person of their right to vote is an anti-national act, and Gyanesh Kumar has done so to benefit the BJP. He labeled this act as treason and stated that all individuals involved should be held accountable. He claimed that the Election Commission has become the "Cheating Commission of India" and that Congress will not allow Gyanesh Kumar to remain in the post of Chief Election Commissioner.
Mr. Ramesh said that Congress is collecting information on approximately 13.5 crore voters whose names have been removed from voter rolls. There are approximately 10 lakh polling booths in the country, and information on removed names will be collected from every booth during this period. He stated that 13.5 crore is not just a number, but an effort will be made to identify these individuals and restore their right to vote.
Congress leaders said that a large rally will be held at Ram Leela Maidan in Delhi on November 1 to strengthen this movement, with allies of the INDIA bloc invited to participate. After the "Delhi Chalao Yatra" and "Save the Nation, Save the Vote" rally, people across the country will be appealed to come to Delhi on the occasion of Constitution Day.
They stated that opposition parliamentarians will take out a peaceful march on Wednesday regarding the issue of vote rigging and recent revelations concerning the Chief Election Commissioner. The march will start at 10:30 AM from the Main Gate of Parliament House and proceed to Nirvachan Sadan.
