The future belongs to the BJP and the day will come when Kerala will have a BJP Chief Minister.
Union Home Minister and senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) in Kerala, accusing them of "match-fixing", mutual understanding, and corruption. He claimed that the BJP would definitely form the government in Kerala.
Mr. Shah, addressing a meeting of newly elected representatives of local civic bodies here, said the LDF and UDF have been playing a political drama for decades and whenever electoral calculations were required, both stood in each other's defense. He alleged that for the past five decades, the tradition has been that when the Congress does not get a majority, the Left supports it. He said similarly, when the Left needed political support in Tripura, the Congress supported it.
Mr. Shah claimed that due to simultaneous elections in West Bengal and Kerala, the Congress and the Communists did not enter into a formal alliance, otherwise, they would have fought the elections together in both states. Mr. Shah said in West Bengal, both the Congress and the Communists are heading towards zero seats, and the BJP is in a position to form the government there.
Referring to the BJP's organizational expansion in Kerala, he said the party has so far won 30 gram panchayats and two municipalities. He said the BJP having its mayor in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation today is a significant achievement in the party's political journey. Mr. Shah said the future belongs to the BJP and the day will come when the BJP will have its Chief Minister in Kerala.
He said this achievement has been possible due to the sacrifice and dedication of BJP workers. On the national level, Mr. Shah said in 1984, the BJP had only two members of Parliament in the Lok Sabha, while in 2024, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the party has formed the government at the Center for the third consecutive time.
He cited the example of Assam, saying that there too the BJP was once limited to just two assembly seats, but today it is heading towards forming the government for the third time. Mr. Shah alleged that the LDF and UDF cannot protect the faith, ensure the safety of Kerala, or develop the state.
He said Left parties are disappearing worldwide, and the Congress is gradually weakening across the country. According to Mr. Shah, the only way for Kerala's development is under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi through the NDA. Accusing the LDF and UDF of mutual understanding, he said the "match-fixing" between the two has made the state, which has immense possibilities, stagnant.
He alleged that there is an unwritten understanding between the two fronts that they will indulge in corruption after coming to power and will never hold each other accountable. Mr. Shah, referring to the BJP's victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, said it should be seen not as the party's final goal but as a milestone.
He said the BJP's goal is to form a government in Kerala under the lotus symbol and have a BJP Chief Minister. Mr. Shah said Prime Minister Modi has presented a vision to make India a developed country by 2047, and the dream of 'Viksit Bharat' cannot be fulfilled without 'Viksit Kerala'. He told party workers that the recent electoral victory is just one stage of a long journey.
He said the path for the BJP in Kerala has never been easy, but despite difficulties, the workers have remained strong. Mr. Shah also said that he had vowed to visit the Sree Padmanabhaswamy temple after the BJP's mayor was elected in the Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation, and this visit is a fulfillment of that vow. At the meeting, BJP Kerala state president K. Rajeev Chandrashekhar presented Mr. Shah with a statue of Lord Ayyappa.
