Delhi Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said on the growing controversy over the statement of Leader of Opposition Atishi that politics will not be tolerated on the incident that took place in the House and the matter will be resolved within the House itself.
Mr. Gupta said in a press conference on Friday that a regrettable incident occurred in the Delhi Assembly on January 6, due to which the proceedings of the House were affected for three days and on January 7, the proceedings of the House were read out verbatim. The Leader of Opposition, Atishi, was given an opportunity to come to the House and explain, but she did not come. After the statement of the Leader of Opposition, the atmosphere in the House was such that the proceedings had to be adjourned repeatedly.
He said that after confirmation of the matter, the Leader of Opposition was called repeatedly and asked to present her stance, but she did not come. He said that such statements come out due to being devoid of emotions. The groups that sacrificed everything for the protection of the common people should be respected. Despite this, the attitude adopted is not appropriate. He said that the action of the Leader of Opposition can be called 'theft and bullying'. He informed that the FSL department of Punjab is also being sent a notice and they have been given time till January 22 to submit the report. The Punjab Police Director General has sought more time due to personal reasons, so they have also been given an extension till January 22 to respond.
The Assembly Speaker said that the Special Powers Committee of the Delhi Assembly has started its work. The committee has issued a notice to Ms. Atishi, asking her to present her stance by January 19.
He said, "Facts cannot be denied, but challenging the proceedings of the House is a serious matter. This is a matter related to the House and its members, but pressure is being exerted from outside. Those behind this will have to answer. The country's constitution is being harmed, the power and emotions of the constitution are being hurt. This is a matter related to the dignity of the House. Interfering in the proceedings of the Assembly on the incident of the House is a political intention. We will not bow down to any political gimmickry. The decision on this matter will be taken within the House itself, and if needed, a meeting of the House will be called.
