The previous government had stalled Delhi's development journey: Narendra Modi
Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that due to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, Delhi's development had stalled, but over the past year, development is taking place everywhere in Delhi and people are benefiting from it.
On Sunday, after inaugurating and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth over Rs 33,500 crore at an event in Burari, Mr. Modi said it is now clear that the AAP government that Delhi got rid of a year ago was necessary. If the AAP government had not been there, the fourth phase of the metro would have been completed earlier. After the BJP government was formed, the pace of development in Delhi has accelerated. In Delhi, lakhs of people travel by bus every day, so people have got a clean and comfortable bus service. More than 4,000 buses, including electric vehicles, are serving Delhi. For almost ten years, the AAP government had stalled development work, but now development is progressing rapidly. The BJP government is also working on a large scale to clean up the Yamuna River.
In Delhi, the previous AAP government did not care about people's problems. The AAP government never cared about the poor, but under the leadership of Rekha Gupta, the situation is being continuously improved. Over the past year, a large number of Ayushman health centers have been built, benefiting people. Delhi has a development model. Work starts and ends.
The Prime Minister said that from the expansion of the metro to the continuous expansion of facilities for thousands of employees, development is taking place in Delhi. The results of the hopes with which the BJP government was formed in Delhi are evident in the development work. Today's event is special for another reason, which is International Women's Day. In politics, administration, science, sports, or social service, India's Nari Shakti is moving forward with new energy.
Mr. Modi said that when anyone in the world thinks about India's large democracy, the picture of Delhi comes to mind. Delhi's development is not just the development of a city, but it is connected to the image of the whole country. The more modern Delhi becomes, the more strongly India's confidence will be reflected in the world. Today, Delhi is developing in terms of facilities. There was a time when Delhi's poor infrastructure was a topic of discussion. It used to take hours to travel from one part of Delhi to another, but now development is taking place rapidly.
He said that even in the world's biggest cities, there is no network as large as the one in Delhi. The expansion of the metro network will make it easier for people to travel. The Prime Minister said that wherever the BJP government is in the country, people are getting the benefit of some scheme or the other. The BJP government is doing something or the other for all sections of society. The BJP government understood the pain of street vendors and connected them to banking, and they are getting easy loans.
In Delhi, debit cards were previously available only to the rich, but now street vendors have credit cards and are taking advantage of them. The Prime Minister said that a few years ago, we had decided to make three crore sisters lakhpatis. At that time, some people made fun of it and said that such things were being said to win elections, but today, on the occasion of International Women's Day, I proudly say that if women are given opportunities, they can achieve any success. More than three crore sisters have become lakhpatis, and the government has fulfilled its promise.
For decades, our sisters had skills, but they did not get capital and opportunities. However, we have given women new opportunities and connected them to the market. Today, a large number of women are associated with self-help groups, which have made them self-sufficient and are strengthening the rural economy. He said that now the government has decided to make another three crore women lakhpatis. This resolve will also be fulfilled with the blessings of the country's Nari Shakti.
Earlier, the Prime Minister interacted with women who have benefited from various schemes. He spoke to the beneficiaries of the Pradhan Mantri Ajola Yojana, as well as those who have benefited from Ayushman and PM Sonidhi Yojana. During this, women told him how they have benefited from these schemes. This included women employees who run the Delhi Metro.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said that for the respect and self-reliance of women, if any leader has worked, it is Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In every scheme of the Prime Minister, women have been kept at the center. You have done what no one had thought of before. The daughters of the country thank you from the heart. The scheme to build Balika Chhatravas (girls' hostels) across the country will benefit girls.
Union Minister for Urban Housing Manohar Lal Khattar said that today is a very important day. On this day, we salute Matri Shakti. This day is also important for the people of Delhi, as many projects will benefit them. Until 2013-14, only 245 kilometers of metro lines were built in five cities, but now a large network of 1,100 kilometers has been built, and we are third in the world in terms of metro networks. In Delhi, a network of 500 kilometers of metro lines has been laid. Traveling by metro has become easy in Delhi, which is benefiting citizens.
He said that the metro can also play an important role in solving Delhi's pollution problem. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for various development projects worth Rs 33,500 crore in Delhi. He visited the Type-5 quarters of the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) in Sarojini Nagar and handed over keys to women allottees.
The Prime Minister inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for Delhi Metro projects worth Rs 8,300 crore. This includes two new corridors of the Delhi Metro - the Majlis Park - Maujpur Babarpur (Pink Line) and the Deepali Chowk - Majlis Park (Magenta Line), which are approximately 12.3 kilometers and 9.9 kilometers long, respectively. These lines will benefit several areas, including Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar, Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur, Badli Mor, Bhalswa, and Majlis Park.
The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for three new corridors under the fifth phase of the Delhi Metro, with a total length of approximately 16.10 kilometers. These corridors are from R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha, from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal-1, and from Tughlaqabad to Kalindi Kunj. These corridors will connect several important places in the national capital directly and increase convenience for travelers between Noida, South Delhi, and the airport.
The Prime Minister also inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for several projects worth Rs 15,200 crore under the GPRA Redevelopment Scheme. These projects are spread across areas like Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar, and Srinivaspuri and are part of the government's large plan to create world-class infrastructure for government employees and administrative offices.
