Patna, Sep 14: (ABN) Flood affected families in Bihar are going to get a big relief. Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary will transfer Rs 7,000 as ex-gratia through DBT to each affected family's bank account on Tuesday. The state government has completed the payment preparations to provide immediate financial assistance to the flood victims. According to the Disaster Management Department, the complete details of 8 lakh 27 thousand 472 flood affected families were obtained from various districts of the state till Monday evening. These families will be given ex-gratia assistance of Rs. 579.23 crores at the rate of Rs. 7000 per family. However, the number of affected families is likely to rise further, as the process of identifying and verifying the details of the victims continues in many areas.
This assistance amount given by the government will be directly transferred to the bank accounts of the deserving families through DBT. This will help the affected families to meet their immediate needs after the flood disaster. The emphasis of the government is that there is no delay in the payment of relief money and direct financial assistance reaches the deserving families.
On the basis of the details received from the districts by the Disaster Management Department, preparations have been made for the payment of relief money. Officers are in the process of identifying and compiling details of families in the affected areas. In such a case, the number of flood victims may increase further and accordingly the aid amount may also increase.
Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary also mentioned the Bihar floods at the Hindi Day function on Monday, saying that the government does not want to be limited to immediate relief, but is working on a long-term strategy to find a permanent solution to the flood problem. He said that the rivers of Bihar are the basis of life and economy, therefore attention is being paid to the protection of the river system, better water management and interlinking of rivers as per need. The Chief Minister also said that a central team under the leadership of Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will come to Bihar to assess the flood damage and the current situation. The government's aim is to find a lasting solution to this natural calamity while reducing the loss of life and property caused by floods.
