The flood situation in Assam continues to deteriorate. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the death toll has risen to four by July 15, while the number of affected people has increased nearly fourfold to 37,032.
The latest flood-related death report has been received from the Chariadow revenue circle in Sontipur district.
One of the deceased had gone missing on July 13, and his body was recovered on July 14.
The latest figures indicate a rapid increase in the number of affected people as floodwaters spread to several parts of the state. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation, and relief and rescue operations are underway in the affected areas.
A total of 99 villages in 12 revenue circles of Sontipur, Dibrugarh, Lakhimpur, Dhemaji, Jorhat, and Sivasagar districts have been affected by the flood, with 37,032 people affected and 1,103,943 hectares of crops inundated. The administration has set up a total of 20 relief distribution centers in the flood-affected areas, providing aid to 6,984 residents through these centers.
One kutcha house has been completely destroyed, while 72 kutcha houses have been partially damaged. In Sontipur, the SDRF has rescued 16 people stranded in the flood using two boats and transported them to safer locations. A medical team has been deployed in flood-affected Sontipur and Dibrugarh. Infrastructure, including roads, has been damaged in four areas.
