BJP governments will be formed in Bengal: Amit Shah

Awaz E Bihar•24 April 2026 at 02:13 pm•10 views•4 min read

Kolkata: After the first phase of voting in the West Bengal Assembly elections, Union Home Minister Amit Shah made a major political claim at a press conference held in Kolkata on Friday, saying that next month, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will have governments in all three regions of Anga (Bihar), Banga (Bengal), and Kalinga (Odisha). He said that the BJP is spreading rapidly in eastern India and the people of West Bengal have made up their minds for a change this time.

Amit Shah said that the people of West Bengal voted enthusiastically in the first phase of the Assembly elections. He said that voting took place on 152 seats in the first phase and the BJP will win more than 110 of these seats. Shah said that the voter turnout has broken all previous records, which is a clear indication that the people of the state want a change.

He said that over 92% of the votes were cast in the first phase, which is proof that people want a democratic change. Shah said that the public has rejected the politics of fear and violence and has come out in large numbers to exercise their right to vote at polling stations.

Directly attacking the Trinamool Congress government, Amit Shah said that the departure of the Mamata Banerjee-led government is inevitable. He alleged that corruption has been institutionalized in the state, with scams worth thousands of crores of rupees taking place over the past few years. He said that the public is suffering from recruitment scams, teacher appointment scandals, municipal irregularities, and corruption in various schemes.

Shah said that if the BJP forms a government, it will release a white paper on the corruption that took place during the Trinamool Congress's tenure. He also said that all cases will be investigated under the supervision of a retired Supreme Court judge so that the guilty can be punished according to the law.

Prioritizing women's safety, Shah said that there is anger among women in West Bengal. He alleged that crimes against women have increased in the state and the government has failed to take action with sensitivity. He said that if the BJP forms a government, arrangements will be made so that women can move around without fear even at night.

He said that the women of West Bengal will play a decisive role in this election and will give a befitting reply to the Trinamool Congress. Referring to the issue of women's reservation, Shah said that the BJP is committed to empowering women.

Amit Shah said that the syndicate rule, cut-money, and nephew-tax systems have made life difficult for the common people in the state. He alleged that there is a system of brokerage and pressure politics in any construction work, business, job, or government facility. If the BJP forms a government, these systems will be completely eliminated.

On the issue of land encroachment, Shah said that thousands of hectares of land have been illegally occupied in the state for years. The BJP government will remove such encroachments and use the land for development, industry, housing, and infrastructure.

He also said that if the BJP forms a government, a leader born and raised in Bengal will be made the Chief Minister. He alleged that the Trinamool Congress is spreading rumors of outside rule to mislead the public, while the BJP respects the soil and culture of Bengal.

Referring to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of balanced development for eastern India, Amit Shah said that the central government wants eastern India to develop like the western part of the country. If the BJP forms a government in West Bengal, this dream will be fulfilled even faster.

Appealing to voters to participate in large numbers in the second phase of polling, he said that this election is not just about changing the MLA, Chief Minister, or government, but it is an opportunity to free West Bengal from corruption, violence, sycophancy, red tape, and unemployment.

At the end of the meeting, Amit Shah expressed confidence that this time the people of West Bengal will vote in favor of change and the BJP will form a government with a complete majority in the state.
