US President Donald Trump said on Friday at the end of his visit to China that "tremendous trade deals" were made with Chinese President Xi Jinping and that an agreement was reached between the two countries to prevent the US-Iran war from getting out of control. The two leaders concluded high-level meetings in Beijing on a positive note and said the visit was a success. The meeting indicated a shared interest in stabilizing relations after last year's damaging "trade war" and months of geopolitical tension. According to a CBS News report, before departing China on Air Force One, Mr. Trump called the trip "an incredible journey" and said "a lot of great things happened," however, he refrained from providing detailed information about the agreements made. According to Mr. Trump, China has agreed to buy more US planes, agricultural products, and other fuel products. He also indicated that discussions are ongoing regarding the establishment of a formal US-China trade and investment coordination mechanism. The US President said, "We've really done something amazing," and added that his personal relationship with Mr. Xi Jinping is "very strong." Chinese President Xi Jinping also adopted a positive attitude, calling the meetings "historic" and a "milestone" in relations between the two economic superpowers. According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, Mr. Xi Jinping said the two countries have reached "important common understanding" on maintaining stable trade relations, expanding cooperation, and resolving disputes more cautiously. The leadership meeting took place at the Zhongnanhai complex in Beijing, where a private conversation also took place behind closed doors for about two hours. Trade, as well as the Iran war and the future of the Strait of Hormuz, emerged as key topics during the discussions between the two leaders. According to Mr. Trump, the two leaders expressed similar views on preventing any kind of tension in the Gulf and agreed that the strategically important waterway should be reopened by Iran. Later, Mr. Trump told Fox News that Mr. Xi Jinping personally assured him that China would not provide military equipment to Iran. He called it a "big statement," however, the US has not publicly confirmed it. The leadership meeting also focused on economic stability after the "tariff wars" of 2025, when both countries imposed more than 100% import duties on each other's goods. The Beijing visit included several key US business leaders, including Elon Musk and Tim Cook. Mr. Musk described the talks as "amazing," while Mr. Cook briefly greeted journalists outside the meetings. However, despite the positive bilateral meeting, issues are far from being fully resolved, as Taiwan remains one of the most sensitive topics. Chinese state media said Mr. Xi Jinping warned Mr. Trump that mishandling the Taiwan issue could lead to "confrontation and even conflict" between the two countries. Although the White House later avoided publicly discussing Taiwan. It is clear that US-China relations have been plagued by the Taiwan issue, where China claims that Taiwan should eventually come under Chinese control, while the US continues to provide military support to the autonomous island.
