Every US citizen will get $5,000 if we win the midterms: Trump

Awaz E Bihar•10 September 2026 at 02:29 pm•19 views•3 min read

US President Donald Trump said at the Republican Party's midterm convention on Wednesday that every American adult will receive $5,000 if his party wins the November congressional elections.
Midterm elections include all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives (lower house) and 33 or 34 of the 100 seats in the U.S. Senate (upper house).
"If we win, you win with us, and you get $5,000. It's called the Trump dividend," Mr. Trump said at the convention here. Shortly after his statement, US Vice President Jay D. Vance signaled some modifications to the pledge. He said that the money will not go to the rich. He said that this amount could be paid from the revenue generated from the tariffs imposed by the United States.
The pledge is expected to cost more than a trillion dollars and would require congressional approval. That could add about $1.8 trillion to the annual U.S. budget deficit and raise concerns about inflation. That amount would significantly exceed U.S. tariff revenue, especially after the Supreme Court struck down a large portion of the president's tariff program last year.
Mr. Trump did not say where the money would come from. He simply said, "Our country is making a lot of money." Last month, the US national debt surpassed $40 trillion for the first time. He strongly defended the war with Iran and predicted a US victory in it, directly linking it to falling oil prices.
He also proposed to change the name of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz to his name. He said that America is winning the war, so the name of Hormuz should be changed to Strait of Trump.
"Food prices and almost every other commodity are getting cheaper. And yes, as soon as we win the war with Iran, oil prices will go down. And the war is still going on," Mr Trump said.
Mr Trump also appeared to acknowledge the war's impact on the US economy. He said that we were in a very good condition. He then turned to his economic advisers and said, "I don't like doing this for you." He then explained that he was forced to start the war because Iran was likely to acquire nuclear weapons "within two, maybe three weeks".
Like other Republican leaders at the convention, the US president also raised the growing threat of communism to America. "If they win, it will become a communist country. Your vote will decide whether our country stagnates at the beginning of the next 250 years or moves forward and never looks back," he warned.
With the Republican Party trailing Democrats in the polls, Mr. Trump urged his supporters to imagine they were on the ballot. "I'm asking you to imagine I'm on the ballot," he said.
Opinion polls widely show Mr Trump's approval rating hovering in the low 30s, with voters increasingly resentful of him over rising prices and the war he has waged against Iran.
Mr. Trump has often expressed concern that in modern times, the president's party almost always loses congressional seats in midterm elections. He has found unusual ways to change this political trend, including this week's convention.
"We're going to change it. There's no reason not to," Mr Trump said.
