The use of the most dangerous US-banned thermobaric bombs in Gaza has been revealed. Al Jazeera reported in its report the horrific revelation of the evaporation of 3,000 Palestinians in the air and stated that these bombs did not leave any trace of the Palestinians. Thermobaric bombs have a temperature of 3,500 degrees Celsius, which immediately turns the body into ash. According to the report, this is a war crime, and Europe and the US supplied these bombs to Israel, which failed the global justice system in Gaza. Al Jazeera's investigation revealed that the thermal and thermobaric munitions provided by the US, which burn at up to 3,500 degrees Celsius, left no sign of nearly 3,000 Palestinians. On the morning of August 10, 2024, Yasmine Mahani was searching for her son Saad in the smoldering rubble of the Al-Tibeen school in Gaza City. She found her husband shouting, but there was no sign of Saad. Mahani told Al Jazeera's investigative report on Monday that when I entered the mosque, I found myself stepping on flesh and blood, we searched hospitals and morgues for days, but we didn't find anything of Saad, not even a body to bury. That was the most painful thing. Mahani is one of the thousands of Palestinians whose loved ones suddenly disappeared during Israel's aggression against Gaza, in which more than 72,000 people have lost their lives. According to Al Jazeera Arabic's investigation, 'The Rest of the Story', Gaza's civil defense teams have documented 2,842 Palestinians who "evaporated" since the start of the war in October 2023, leaving behind only bloodstains or small pieces of flesh. Experts and eyewitnesses have attributed this phenomenon to Israel's systematic use of thermobaric weapons, banned internationally, also known as vacuum or aerosol bombs, which can reach temperatures above 3,500 degrees Celsius (6,332 Fahrenheit). The report stated that the number of 2,842 is not just an estimate but a detailed count based on the forensic examination by Gaza's civil defense. Spokesman Mahmoud Basal told Al Jazeera that when we enter a targeted house, we compare the number of people known to be inside with the number of bodies we find. If a family says there were five people inside and we only find three complete bodies, we consider the other two to be "evaporated" if, after a thorough search, we find nothing but bloodstains or small pieces of flesh. The investigation detailed how specific chemical compounds in Israeli munitions can turn the human body into ash in a matter of seconds. Russian military expert Vasily Fatin said thermobaric weapons do not just kill but annihilate matter. Unlike conventional explosives, these weapons release a cloud of fuel that ignites, creating a massive fireball and a vacuum-like effect. Fatin explained that to prolong the burning period, chemical mixtures include aluminum, magnesium, and titanium powders, which raise the explosion temperature to 2,500 to 3,000 degrees Celsius. The investigation stated that the extreme heat often comes from tritonal, a mixture of TNT and aluminum powder used in US-made bombs like the MK-84. Dr. Munir al-Bursh, director-general of the Palestinian Ministry of Health in Gaza, explained the biological effects of such extreme heat on the human body, which is about 80 percent water. Al-Bursh said water's boiling point is 100 degrees Celsius (212 Fahrenheit). When the body is exposed to more than 3,000 degrees of energy, extreme pressure, and oxidation, bodily fluids immediately boil. Tissues turn into vapor and ash. This is chemically inevitable. The investigation identified specific US-made weapons used in Gaza linked to the disappearances: The MK-84 Hammer: a 900-kilogram (2,000-pound) unguided bomb filled with tritonal, which reaches temperatures of up to 3,500 degrees Celsius (6,332 Fahrenheit). The BLU-109 bunker buster: used in the September 2024 attack on Al-Muassi, which Israel had designated as a "safe zone" for displaced Palestinians. The bomb vaporized 22 people. Its steel casing and delayed fuse allow the PBXN-109 explosive mixture to detonate after penetrating the ground, creating a massive fireball in enclosed spaces that incinerates everything in its reach. The GBU-39: a precision-guided glide bomb used in the attack on the Al-Tibeen school. It uses AFX-757 explosive material. According to Fatin, the GBU-39 is designed to preserve the structure of a building while annihilating everything inside. It shatters lungs with the shockwave and incinerates soft tissues with the thermal wave. Civil Defense's Mahmoud Basal confirmed that they found fragments of GBU-39 wings at locations where bodies were found to have vanished. Legal experts say the use of these indiscriminate weapons not only implicates Israel but also its Western suppliers. Diana Buttu, a lecturer and lawyer at Qatar's Georgetown University, said this is global genocide, not just Israeli. Addressing the Al Jazeera Forum in Doha, Buttu argued that the supply of arms is evidence of complicity. She said we see the US and Europe continuously supplying these weapons, knowing they do not distinguish between combatants and children, yet they continue to send them. Buttu emphasized that under international law, the use of such weapons that cannot distinguish between combatants and civilian non-combatants constitutes a war crime. She asked why Israel is being allowed to remain outside the accountability system, knowing it possesses and uses these banned weapons.
