Iran strongly reacts to US permission to use British military bases, consequences to be borne by UK: Tehran

Awaz E Bihar•24 July 2026 at 02:56 pm•14 views•3 min read

Iran has strongly condemned the UK's alleged decision to allow the US to use its military bases for actions against Iran, warning that any country that cooperates in a military operation against Iran will be responsible for the consequences. This reaction came after media reports stated that British Prime Minister Andy Burnham had given the US permission to use the military base on Diego Garcia in the Indian Ocean and other facilities, including RAF Fairford in England, for actions against Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry said in a statement that the UK's provision of military bases and logistical facilities constitutes support for the US attacks, which Iran has deemed "illegal". According to the ministry, this move is a clear violation of the UN Charter and international law. The statement noted that the UK government's decision to make its military bases available to the US is contrary to the fundamental principles of international law and the UN Charter.

The Foreign Ministry further stated that, according to Article 3(f) of UN General Assembly Resolution 3314, if a country allows its territory to be used by another country to attack a third country, it is considered an act of aggression. Therefore, the UK's action also falls under the category of aggression.

The statement claimed that British authorities are well aware that US military action against Iran, with the involvement of Israel, constitutes outright aggression, and that providing any form of assistance in the preparation or execution of such action is equivalent to participating in aggression and war crimes.

Iran also criticized the UK for supporting alleged aggressor countries, despite being a permanent member of the UN Security Council, instead of condemning the attacks. The statement said that the UK has chosen to side with the aggressor countries rather than condemning the illegal military attacks, which is inconsistent with its claims of upholding the rule of law, human rights, and global peace and security.

Iran accused the UK of having taken anti-Iranian actions in the past, including the 1953 coup, supporting Iraq during the Iran-Iraq war, imposing sanctions on Iran's nuclear program, attempting to activate the UN's "snapback" mechanism, and taking actions against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards.

The Foreign Ministry concluded its statement by saying that Iran is fully determined to defend its national sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national interests, and that any party that participates in military aggression against Iran in any way will be responsible for the consequences of its decision.

Meanwhile, according to media reports, British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has continued the policy of his predecessor, Keir Starmer, by giving the US permission to use the military bases on Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford for actions against Iran. It is worth noting that the US has been carrying out attacks on various locations in Iran since last week, while Iran has retaliated by targeting facilities and military bases in several countries in the region that it believes are being used by the US military.
