A deadly Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon has killed Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil and injured another female journalist, Zeinab Faraj. According to Lebanese authorities, an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon on Wednesday killed Lebanese journalist Amal Khalil, while another journalist was seriously injured. Amal Khalil, who was affiliated with the Lebanese newspaper Al-Akhbar, was martyred while performing her journalistic duties. The National News Agency (NNA) of Lebanon reported that she is the fourth media worker to be killed by Israel in Lebanon since March. Lebanese state media and the Ministry of Health said that another journalist, Zeinab Faraj, was injured in Israeli military attacks while rescue workers were trying to reach Amal Khalil, who was buried under the rubble. According to Lebanese authorities, Israel attacked the town of Tyre in southern Lebanon and temporarily prevented rescue teams from saving people. It is worth noting that Amal Khalil's organization, Al-Akhbar, is a left-leaning and pro-Hezbollah newspaper, and her body was found in the rubble of a building. The NNA reported that several people were also injured in one of the multiple attacks in the same area, in the Nabatiyeh district. Lebanese Red Cross personnel were able to extract Zeinab Faraj and transfer her to a hospital in Tibnin. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, the journalist was trying to take shelter in a nearby house after the first attack. The ministry added that two other people were also killed in the attacks. The Lebanese Prime Minister said in a statement that Israel's targeting of journalists and obstructing access to rescue teams is a war crime. On the other hand, the Israeli army acknowledged that there were reports of two journalists being injured in the attacks, but insisted that it was not preventing rescue teams from accessing the area. The army said that the details of the incident are being reviewed. According to the Israeli army, its forces in southern Lebanon saw two cars coming from a "military installation" that it claimed was used by Hezbollah. It claimed that the "terrorists" in the cars approached the army in a threatening manner, and the army targeted one of the cars and the building from which the individuals fled. CNN could not independently verify who those individuals were. The attacks occurred during a fragile ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, which has been in effect since last Friday, in an effort to stop the fighting between Israel and Hezbollah. The attacks have drawn widespread international condemnation, including from organizations such as the United Nations and the Committee to Protect Journalists.
