Hyderabad: (Agency) Amidst the ongoing global energy crisis and tensions in West Asia, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has made a significant appeal to the nation. He has urged his fellow citizens to use petroleum products, such as petrol and diesel, with utmost caution and restraint. Additionally, the Prime Minister has also made an appeal regarding gold purchases. He stated that, in the national interest, people should refrain from buying gold jewelry for at least a year, whether it's a major family event or a wedding. PM Modi has explicitly emphasized that saving the country's money, especially foreign currency, is our true patriotism in this hour of crisis.
Speaking on the topic of petroleum products, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that India imports a large quantity of crude oil from abroad to produce petrol and diesel. Consequently, if the country's citizens use petrol, diesel, and gas unnecessarily, or more than their actual needs, it will have a direct and severe negative impact on the country's entire economy. The world is currently facing a severe energy crisis, and the ongoing tensions in West Asia have multiplied these concerns. Therefore, Modi has appealed to every citizen to recognize their responsibility and exercise extreme caution in the use of petroleum products. He expressed confidence that by doing so, not only will the country save its foreign exchange reserves, but India will also be largely protected from the negative effects of the global crisis arising from the ongoing conflicts.
The Prime Minister addressed the issue of gold purchases with great seriousness, along with petrol and diesel consumption. PM Modi pointed out that the large quantity of gold and gold jewelry purchased by the people of India results in a significant reduction in the country's foreign exchange reserves. Recalling the past, Prime Minister Modi noted that whenever the country faced war or a national crisis in the past, people would go to the extent of donating their gold to the government in the national interest. He said that the government does not need gold donations today, but it is essential that, in the national interest, people refrain from buying new gold and gold jewelry for at least a year. He directly appealed to the public, emphasizing that they should decide that, whether they have any family event or ceremony at home, they will avoid buying gold jewelry for the next year. Protecting the country's economic strength and its resources is an important aspect of patriotism in today's era.
The Prime Minister also outlined the measures being taken by the government. He said that work on alternative energy sources is progressing rapidly. In just the past few years, India has become one of the leading countries in the world in the field of solar energy (electricity generated from sunlight). Furthermore, the blending of ethanol in petrol has been significantly accelerated to reduce dependence on crude oil. While the government was earlier focused on delivering LPG gas cylinders to every household in the country, it is now focused on providing piped gas to homes at affordable prices. Alongside this, the infrastructure for CNG-based vehicles is also being promoted in a robust manner. It is due to these collective efforts that India is able to cope with the major global energy crisis with such resilience today.
