The central government said on Friday that despite the ongoing crisis in West Asia, the price of petrol in India remains at around Rs 94.77 per liter, while in countries like Germany, France, and the UK, the price is around Rs 200 per liter. Sujata Sharma, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, addressing a press conference in New Delhi, said that about 20 percent of the world's energy passes through the Strait of Hormuz, making it extremely important for India. India imports around 40 percent of its crude oil, 90 percent of LPG, and 65 percent of natural gas from the Middle East. She said that due to the increase in global prices, the price of crude oil has risen from around $70 to around $120 per barrel, while there has also been a significant increase in LPG prices. She said that despite the losses of oil marketing companies, the Government of India has worked to protect consumers by reducing excise duty, increasing LPG production, promoting PNG connections, and ensuring a stable gas supply. Sujata Sharma pointed out that petrol prices in India are around Rs 94.77 per liter, while in countries like Germany, France, and the UK, prices are around Rs 200 per liter. The government has also ensured an uninterrupted supply of LPG, so that no distributor faces any kind of shortage.
