An advisor to the speaker of Iran's parliament and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, said on Tuesday that the extension of the ceasefire by US President Donald Trump is actually a ploy to buy time for a sudden attack. Ghalibaf's advisor said in a statement on the social media platform "X" that the ongoing US blockade of Iranian ports is no less than a bombing and deserves a military response. On the other hand, Iran's top joint military leadership has warned that if the situation escalates further, a "severe attack" could be launched on predetermined targets, especially in the context of repeated threats from Trump. Meanwhile, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards' air force, General Majid Musavi, told Iranian media that attacking Iran would be a big mistake and would have serious consequences. All these statements have come at a time when Trump announced on Tuesday that he is extending the ceasefire with Iran to allow more time for negotiations, but made it clear that the US blockade of Iranian ports will remain in place. Trump wrote on his social media platform "Truth Social" that the ceasefire will remain in place until Iran comes up with a proposal to end the war, and in the meantime, the US military has been instructed to continue the blockade. The extension came just hours before the ceasefire was set to expire. Meanwhile, the White House announced that Vice President Jay Dee Vines will not visit Pakistan, where the second round of peace talks was expected. Trump cited Iran's internal differences as the reason for the failure of the talks, while he said that Pakistan's leadership had requested him to extend the ceasefire.
