Women from Delhi leave for Hajj without male companions from Medina

Today, 43 women without a mahram departed from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi for the holy city of Medina to perform the Hajj pilgrimage via Saudi Airlines' seventh Hajj flight, numbered SV-5909. On this occasion, at Terminal-3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi State Haj Committee Chairperson Kausar Jahan, Executive Officer of the Haj Committee Ashfaq Ahmed Arfi, Deputy Executive Officer Mohsin Ali, and other staff members of the Haj Committee welcomed these women and bid them farewell with flowers as they embarked on their Hajj journey. On this occasion, Chairperson Kausar Jahan, while speaking to the media, said that due to the commendable initiative of the central government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, facilities are being created for every section of society. She said that under this initiative of the Government of India, women traveling for Hajj without a mahram (without a male companion) is not only of religious significance but also an important example of women's empowerment. It is worth noting that out of the 43 women who departed from Delhi for Hajj today, 12 are from Delhi, 21 from Uttar Pradesh, 3 from Bihar, 4 from Jammu and Kashmir, 2 from Madhya Pradesh, and 2 from Uttarakhand. This was the seventh flight in the series of Hajj flights that started on April 18, under which a total of 2721 Hajj pilgrims have so far departed for Medina. So far, 1423 men and 1298 women have departed. By May 20, more than 21,100 Hajj pilgrims from various states of North India, including Delhi, will depart for Medina and Jeddah en route to Mecca via 54 flights of Saudi Airlines. This year, in the first phase, 12,240 pilgrims will travel to Medina via 31 flights from the Delhi embarkation point, while in the second phase, 8,860 pilgrims will travel to Mecca via 23 flights. Meanwhile, the number of Hajj pilgrims from Delhi state is 3196.
