Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday that several fields such as artificial intelligence, data center, critical minerals, deep sea exploration, battery, power storage, energy security, electric mobility, and quantum computing are waiting for the potential, innovation, and leadership of the country's youth.
Mr. Modi, while addressing the 57th convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi, said that India is moving forward in the journey of Vikas Bharat at a time when the world is changing rapidly and the driving force behind this change is the pace of technology. He said that no one can say for sure what the world will be like in the next 20-30 years, but new opportunities are also created along with challenges in the era of change.
He said, "The world will change, technology will change, industry will change, professions will also change. But, remember my words, whoever learns will win. Whoever has the courage to find new solutions to new challenges will turn challenges into opportunities."
Mr. Modi said that the degree received from IIT is not just a proof of passing the exam, getting a good CGPA, or getting a good placement, but it is a proof that the students know how to find solutions to difficult problems. He said that when a challenge seems big in life, instead of getting scared, one should try to find a solution by breaking it down into smaller parts.
Mr. Modi said that in the coming years, the country's youth will have vast opportunities to work in new technologies and fields. He said that due to the government's modern policies, many such fields have opened up for the youth, where entry opportunities were limited earlier, and new fields are also being created in the country.
He said that the role of youth is crucial in the journey of Vikas Bharat, and the more empowered the youth of the country will be, the stronger the country will be. He said that today India is working towards economic self-reliance, technological self-reliance, and industrial self-reliance, and the youth have to build Vikas Bharat on this strong foundation.
The Prime Minister said that one example of new opportunities for youth in the country is the space sector. He said that until a few years ago, almost all the work in this sector was done at the government level, but today this sector has become a field of new opportunities for thousands of youth.
Youth are making their own launch vehicles and launching rockets. He said that India has also made a new beginning in the field of semiconductors, and production has started in the first semiconductor units. He expressed confidence that from chips to ships, everything will be made in India by the hands of the youth.
Referring to the drone sector, Mr. Modi said that the youth are creating new possibilities in this field. Drones are being used in agriculture, delivering medicines, and in the country's defense and security.
Mr. Modi also mentioned the contribution of institutions like IIT in India's startup revolution. He said that many founders have emerged from this institution, and if such a big power can be created from one institution, then it can be imagined what kind of talent is being developed across the country.
He said that the unicorn, digital payment, and fintech revolution have given millions of youth in the country the opportunity to do something new for the first time. He said that there are still many areas where India is starting its new journey, and the country has high expectations from the youth in these areas.
Mr. Modi said, "Artificial intelligence, data center, rare minerals, deep sea exploration, battery, energy storage, energy security, electric transport, quantum computing, and many such fields are waiting for your ability, your innovation, and your leadership, and I am also waiting."
He said that another big possibility for the country is in the field of research. India needs new research, and the government is also focusing on this aspect.
He mentioned the Prime Minister Research Fellowship, Research Development and Innovation Scheme, and the National Research Foundation, saying that the objective of these aspects is to give new strength to science and research in the country.
Mr. Modi said that an arrangement is being made for funding of up to one lakh crore rupees in the field of research. He said that access to educational resources has also been made easier, and through 'One Nation One Subscription', prominent research journals of the world are reaching even the smallest cities of the country without any additional cost.
He said that there is still a long way to go in the field of research, and this work is possible only with the commitment of the youth. He said that the country also has expectations from the youth and trusts them.
Mr. Modi advised the students to avoid comparing themselves with others in life, saying that seeing who got what package, who went to which company, which city or country, and who started a startup, can be a big distraction.
He said that in the era of social media, such comparisons never end. He said, "Life is not a leaderboard, your real race is not with someone else, it's with yourself. Keep trying to be better than yesterday every day."
The Prime Minister also asked the students to take care of their physical and mental health. Mr. Modi said that every generation has its own challenges and its own national responsibility.
He said that what the youth will do in the next 30-35 years will have an impact on the journey of Vikas Bharat. He asked the students to think in every decision they make about what benefit it will bring to the country and what need of the country will be fulfilled.
The Prime Minister advised the students to maintain curiosity and a learning attitude in life, as well as to question established concepts and find solutions. He said that one should not just stop at asking questions, but also have the courage to find solutions.
He said that in the IIT exam, there is a syllabus and a question paper, but in the exam of life, everything is 'out of syllabus'. Often, one also has to identify what the real question is.
Mr. Modi said that the reason for the success of many former students of IIT is not just that they gave the right answers, but also that they identified the questions that the world had stopped considering as questions and found solutions to the problems that others had compromised on.
He congratulated the students coming out of the convocation ceremony of IIT Delhi, saying that they should maintain their relationships with their institution, teachers, friends, and all the people who cooperated in this journey.
