Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the new terminal building of the Guwahati airport and said that a new sun of the country's future will rise from the northeast, led by Assam.

Mr. Modi, while accusing the Congress party of deliberately keeping the entire northeastern region away from development, said that the Congress had given infiltrators a free pass in Assam for the sake of religious appeasement. After inaugurating the second terminal building of the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, the Prime Minister, while addressing a public meeting, said that today is a day of celebration of development. Modern airport facilities and new means of communication are a matter of pride for any state, bringing new opportunities.

He accused the Congress and the 'India' alliance of speaking in favor of infiltrators, saying that the Election Commission is causing them trouble when it is conducting a special summary revision (SSR) of voter lists. The Prime Minister, while urging the people of Assam to beware of the Congress, said that we have to protect the identity and existence of Assam, for which the state's first Chief Minister Bordoloi had struggled.

After inaugurating the new terminal building of the Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Mr. Modi, while addressing a public meeting, said that today, a new chapter is being added to the development of Assam. Just as the flow of the Brahmaputra river in the state never stops, the flow of development of the BJP is also continuous. He said, "The new sun of India's future has to rise from the northeast. We have to move forward by keeping Assam's development at the forefront. The path to a developed India has to be made from a developed Assam."

He accused the Congress party of deliberately keeping the entire northeastern region away from development, saying that the development of this region was not on their agenda. He said that the Congress had made mistakes for six-seven decades, which Modi is correcting one by one. For Modi, the development of Assam is both a need and a responsibility. He said that the Congress governments had kept Assam and the northeast away from development, which harmed the country's integrity and unity.

Mr. Modi said that at the time of partition, the Congress had conspired to merge Assam into East Bengal (now Bangladesh). The state's first Chief Minister, Gopinath Bordoloi, had fought against his own party and kept Assam as a part of India. The Prime Minister said that after independence, the Congress had given infiltrators a free pass to appease people on the basis of religion. Infiltrators had occupied forests and lands, which the current state government is now trying to evict.

He criticized the Congress for strongly opposing the Election Commission's special summary revision (SSR) of voter lists, saying that opposition parties and members of the 'India' alliance are speaking in favor of infiltrators. When the Election Commission is conducting the SSR process, the Congress is feeling troubled.

He appealed to the people of Assam to be very cautious and protect the identity of Assam. The Prime Minister said that with the new terminal building, the capacity of Guwahati and Assam will increase, more people will be able to come here, and the facility to visit Mother Kamakhya will become easier. The airport's annual capacity will increase from 3.4 million passengers to 13 million passengers, spread over an area of 1,40,000 square meters. Currently, 6.5 million passengers travel through the airport every year, making it the 10th busiest airport in the country. The new building features extensive use of bamboo, reflecting Assam's culture, and an indoor forest showcasing the Kaziranga.

Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said that this is not just a building but a symbol of the aspirations of Assam and the possibilities of the northeast. He said that in 2014, there were 74 airports in the country, which has now increased to 165. Assam Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, and other ministers were also present on the occasion.
