20 teams engaged in relief work, supplies dispatched from various districts
The state government and the Disaster Management Department are carrying out relief and rescue operations on a war footing in response to the severe flood situation in various blocks of Saran. Following the directives of Chief Minister Smriti Irani, the entire administrative machinery is on alert to provide immediate assistance to the affected population. Rescue efforts have been further intensified as floodwaters have begun to inundate new areas.
To strengthen the relief and rescue operations, additional teams have been deployed to Saran from other districts, in addition to the five NDRF and three SDRF teams already stationed there. NDRF teams from Buxar, Gopalganj, Bhagalpur, and Supaul, along with additional SDRF teams from Madhubani, Darbhanga, Samastipur, and East Champaran, have reached Saran. Currently, a total of 20 teams, comprising 13 NDRF and 7 SDRF teams, are engaged in relief work in Saran.
According to officials from the Disaster Management Department, the situation is being monitored around the clock. Rescue teams are fully equipped with modern resources. Trained NDRF and SDRF personnel are using boats, life jackets, life buoys, and deep dive sets to evacuate people to safe locations. The evacuation of citizens from flood-affected areas and their transfer to relief camps is being carried out on a priority basis.
Officials stated that Air Force helicopters are being utilized to expedite the distribution of relief material. So far, more than 3,000 ration packets have been airdropped, and this number is expected to exceed 5,000 by evening. In addition, a large quantity of relief material is being sent to Saran from neighboring districts. A total of 40,000 ration packets have been dispatched to Saran, including 10,000 from Patna, 15,000 from Siwan, 5,000 from Bhagalpur, 5,000 from Buxar, and 5,000 from Vaishali. Seventy-five thousand polythene sheets have been provided to offer temporary shelter to flood victims, including 25,000 from Darbhanga, 20,000 from Madhubani, 15,000 from Sitamarhi, and 15,000 from Samastipur. The district administration is continuously monitoring the availability of food, drinking water, and medical services. Departmental officials stated that the government is committed to providing assistance to every affected family.
