Patna, 6 October (ABN): Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin), the construction of 42 lakh 83 thousand 611 houses has so far been completed in Bihar. From the financial year 2016-17 till now, the state received a target of 49 lakh 16 thousand 729 houses, against which 49 lakh 9 thousand 816 houses have been sanctioned. Out of the sanctioned houses, 87.25 percent of the construction work has been completed. Meanwhile, 6 lakh 26 thousand 205 houses are still pending. The Rural Development Department is continuously monitoring districts and blocks to ensure the speedy completion of these houses.
In the financial year 2026-27, around three thousand crore rupees have been spent under this scheme so far. To accelerate the construction of pending houses, regular reviews are being conducted via video conferencing with district and block-level officers. From the financial year 2026-27, the housing assistance amount is being sent directly to the beneficiaries' bank accounts via the RBI through the SNA model. Gram Sabhas were organized on September 27 to include surveyed families who were left out of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) waiting list. The list has been approved through Gram Sabhas in 8,012 Gram Panchayats across the state, while the approval process is ongoing in 37 Gram Panchayats. The list approved by the Gram Sabha is being finalized by the District Appeals Committee. The target is to complete this entire process by October 31, 2026.
After this, the new target received from the Centre for the financial year 2026-27 will be allocated district-wise, block-wise, and panchayat-wise. Coordination is ongoing with the Revenue and Land Reforms Department to provide residential land to landless beneficiaries for house construction. Where government-provided residential land is not available, Rs 1 lakh is provided for land purchase based on local rates and MVR under the Chief Minister Housing Site Purchase Assistance Scheme.
According to Rural Development Minister Mr. Shravan Kumar, providing timely, permanent housing to eligible families under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Gramin) is the department's priority. Continuous reviews of districts and blocks are being conducted to accelerate the completion of pending housing projects. Once the waitlist process is completed, new targets will be allocated at the Panchayat level so that maximum needy families can benefit from this scheme.
