American naval fleets can be sunk with a single operation: Khamenei

Awaz E Bihar•18 February 2026 at 02:34 pm•0 views•4 min read

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the US naval fleet can be sunk with a single strike.
Addressing a ceremony in Tehran on Monday, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei issued a stern warning to Washington, saying that US warships in the Arabian Gulf can be sunk to the bottom of the sea. The statement comes at a time when a new round of indirect nuclear talks between Iran and the US has begun in Geneva under Omani mediation, showing significant progress. Khamenei responded directly to US President Donald Trump's statements, in which he has repeatedly referred to the US as having the 'most powerful military in the world'.

The Iranian leader said that President Trump considers his military to be the most powerful in the world, but even the most powerful military can be dealt a blow from which it cannot recover.
Khamenei said, 'The most powerful military in the world can also be given a slap in the face that it cannot withstand. They keep saying that we have sent a warship towards Iran. Good, a warship is a dangerous machine, but even more dangerous than a warship is the weapon that can sink it to the bottom of the sea.'

Khamenei rejected the idea that the US can overthrow the Islamic Republic. Referring to Trump's recent statements, he said, 'The US President said in one of his recent statements that the US has failed to destroy the Islamic Republic for 47 years, and he complained about it to his own people. The US has not been able to destroy the Islamic Republic for 47 years. This is a good confession. I say you will not be able to do so.'

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that the weapon that can sink an aircraft carrier is more dangerous than the aircraft carrier itself. He said that the US President will not be able to overthrow the Islamic Republic of Iran, and that even the most powerful military in the world can be given a slap in the face that it cannot withstand.
The statement by the Iranian Supreme Leader comes at a time when US President Donald Trump has repeatedly hinted at possible military action against Iran, mentioning the deployment of a naval fleet towards Iran on several occasions.

On the other hand, a statement issued by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy on Tuesday said that the IRGC is ready to close the Strait of Hormuz on orders.
According to the Iranian news agency, during the 'Smart Control of the Strait of Hormuz' exercise on Monday, maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz was suspended for several hours.

In the second phase of the naval exercise, the IRGC Navy's combat and rapid response units participated, aiming to ensure secure maritime traffic. Various weapons were used during the exercise, and military experts said that the targets were hit with high accuracy. The IRGC's high-speed missile-launching boats also fired missiles, demonstrating their operational capabilities, while missiles launched from the coastal areas and islands of the Gulf also successfully hit their targets in the Strait of Hormuz.

At the conclusion of the indirect talks, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi told the media that they had reached an agreement on basic principles with the US.
He said that it is unlikely that an agreement will be reached soon, but practical steps have been taken, and both parties will work on and exchange documents related to a possible agreement.

The Iranian Foreign Minister stated that there are still topics that need to be worked on, and the US threats of using force should be immediately stopped.
The US delegation at the talks was represented by Steve Witzkoff and Jared Kushner.
