The United States and China have signed a historic agreement under which China has pledged to buy at least $17 billion worth of US agricultural products every year for the next three years. This purchase will be in addition to the previous commitments made regarding the purchase of soybeans in October 2025.
Apart from the trade sector, two new bilateral bodies, the 'US-China Trade Board' and the 'US-China Investment Board', are being established under the agreement. The purpose of these institutions is to further strengthen economic harmony between the two countries after President Trump's visit to China. Additionally, both parties have indicated that they will adopt a unified stance on key geopolitical issues, including Iran, North Korea, and the Strait of Hormuz.
As part of this broader effort to stabilize bilateral relations, China has also approved an initial order for 200 US Boeing aircraft, which is Beijing's first major decision of its kind since 2017. The White House says the agreement will promote high-skilled manufacturing jobs in the US and strengthen long-term trade relations in the aviation sector.
This significant breakthrough comes after talks between the two leaders, in which they agreed to improve global economic stability and promote mutual investment. Washington has described the talks as strategically and economically comprehensive, while the White House considers it the most important US-China agreement since 2017.
The 'US-China Trade Board' and 'US-China Investment Board', established as the basic pillars of this historic agreement, will oversee bilateral trade in non-sensitive items and provide an institutional framework for resolving issues related to investment.
According to the White House, China has assured the US that it will address concerns regarding the supply of rare minerals such as yttrium, scandium, neodymium, and indium. China will also work to ease restrictions and limits on the production and processing of these rare metals and related technologies.
In the agricultural sector, China has renewed the lists of more than 400 US companies that produce beef, reopening its market to US beef and approving new companies. In response, the US Department of Agriculture has also agreed to resume imports of poultry from US states certified to be free of bird flu.
The White House further stated that both countries have reaffirmed their cooperation on major global geopolitical issues, including opposition to Iran's acquisition of nuclear weapons and support for denuclearization of North Korea.
