Tehran: Iran warned the United States on Sunday against any new military "adventure" and said it would respond with "full force and determination" if its territory or interests were attacked. The statement came as tensions between the two countries have been increasing and reports of new military actions by the US and Israel have been circulating.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said in a statement on Telegram that he had conveyed the message to Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan and Pakistani Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir in separate phone calls. Araqchi emphasized that Iran is "fully prepared to respond decisively to any aggression" and warned the US against any "irresponsible military action". This was quoted by the news agency Reuters.
In a separate statement, the Iranian Foreign Ministry accused the US of not implementing the provisions of the memorandum of understanding on the cessation of war signed on June 18. The ministry said that Washington still maintains a naval blockade on Iran, while attacks and economic pressure continue. The Foreign Ministry stated that the naval blockade, threats, and attacks targeting civilian infrastructure are considered aggression and a violation of the United Nations Charter.
The statement emphasized that Tehran will use all legitimate means to defend its rights, interests, and national security against alleged aggressive actions by the US and Israel. The Iranian Foreign Ministry also criticized the silence of the United Nations Security Council and the UN Secretary-General on recent developments, saying this attitude is not in line with the legal responsibilities of these two international organizations.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry explained that Araqchi's contacts with Turkish and Pakistani officials discussed the dangers of increasing military tension in the region and ways to prevent the conflict from escalating further. These contacts are being made at a time when Tehran is seeking regional support during the ongoing tensions. The statements came hours after US media reports said the US and Israel are considering a military campaign targeting Iran's energy sector facilities, with a final decision pending approval from US President Donald Trump.
This development comes as US military operations are ongoing in the region and naval pressure on Iran is being intensified. Washington says its actions aim to increase pressure on Tehran, while Iran views them as a violation of international law and a direct threat to its national security. Iran's acting Defense Minister Majid Ibn al-Rida said Iran takes every threat from its opponent countries seriously and considers them credible, whether they are psychological pressure or war propaganda.
According to Iranian state media, Majid Ibn al-Rida said in a statement that Iran does not underestimate any possible threat and takes every threat seriously. He said Iran will not be oblivious to any danger or remain a silent spectator, while the country's armed forces are fully prepared to deal with any situation. The acting defense minister said Iran will use every threat as an opportunity to strengthen its defense capabilities, increase military preparedness, improve defense strategy, and maintain effective deterrence against the enemy.
