Sumrat Choudhary will be the next Chief Minister of Bihar, governor presented claim of government formation, will take oath of office and secrecy tomorrow morning
Bihar's next Chief Minister will be Smarat Chaudhary. This was sealed when he was elected as the leader in the BJP legislative party meeting. Vijay Sinha announced his name in the meeting, which was attended by state president Sanjay Sarawagi and BJP observer Shivraj Singh Chouhan. Smarat Chaudhary's name was also supported by Dilip Jaiswal and Mangal Pandey. Later, Smarat Chaudhary met Bihar Governor Syed Ata Hasnain and staked claim to form a new government in the state. The Governor accepted his claim and decided to hold a swearing-in ceremony on April 15 at 11 am. Smarat Chaudhary will take oath as the next Chief Minister of Bihar, along with some members of the new cabinet.
After being elected as the leader of the BJP legislative party, Smarat Chaudhary's first reaction has also come to the fore. In a post on the social media platform 'X', he wrote, "I thank the BJP central leadership for entrusting me with the responsibility of leading the Bihar BJP legislative party. This is not just a position for me, but an opportunity to serve the people of Bihar, to fulfill their trust and dreams." He further said, "I pledge to live up to the expectations of the people with full honesty."
It is worth mentioning that Nitish Kumar had submitted his resignation to the Governor on Tuesday (April 14). He had reached Raj Bhavan along with Smarat Chaudhary and Vijay Choudhary in the same car. Nitish Kumar had taken oath as Chief Minister on November 20, 2025. After resigning today, his tenure has been 145 days, which is the second time he has held the office of Chief Minister for a very short period. Earlier, in 2000, he had taken oath as Chief Minister on March 3, but had to resign on March 10.
There has been a lot of political activity in Bihar since morning. Early in the morning, Sanjay Jha, Vijay Choudhary, and Lalan Singh had reached the Chief Minister's residence. After that, Smarat Chaudhary also arrived. After a meeting of about half an hour, Vijay Choudhary, Smarat Chaudhary, and Nitish Kumar came out of the Chief Minister's residence in the same car. Vijay Choudhary was sitting in the front seat, while Smarat Chaudhary and Nitish Kumar were in the back seat.
It is notable that in the last cabinet meeting, Nitish Kumar appeared emotional. He said that since 2005, when he came to power, he had worked as much as possible and the new government would continue to get his guidance. After the meeting, several ministers termed Nitish Kumar's tenure as historic.
