The Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme will start in the state from Rabi 2026 season
The Minister of Cooperative Department Shri Ram Kirpal Yadav on Monday reviewed the progress of implementation of Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme in Bihar. Along with this, he also reviewed the work done by the vegetable unions and primary vegetable producer cooperative societies affiliated to Bihar State Vegetable Processing and Marketing Cooperative Federation Limited (Vegefeed), the progress of various schemes and the status of infrastructure construction. During the review of the Prime Minister's Crop Insurance Scheme, it was informed that the state cabinet has decided to implement the scheme in Bihar from Rabi season 2026-27. For effective implementation of the scheme, the State Level Crop Insurance Coordination Committee was constituted on 21 July 2026 and its first meeting has been held on 31 July 2026. The meeting took decisions on important points including covered crops, level of compensation, cluster formation, insurance unit and use of technology in harvesting. The tender proposal for selection of insurance companies has been sent to the Central Government for approval. In the review, information was also given about departmental preparations for determining the period of farmers' insurance applications for Rabi 2026-27 from 15 November 2026 to 15 January 2027. On this occasion, the Minister directed that the preparations related to the implementation of the Prime Minister Crop Insurance Scheme should be completed within the stipulated period and the entire process of payment of compensation should be made simple, transparent and time bound. He said that delivering the real benefits of the scheme to the farmers in time should be the first priority. During the review of Veg Feed, information was taken about the infrastructure development being developed at the block and panchayat level under the concept of 'Her Plate Mein Bihari Sabzi'. According to the presentation, out of total 114 units of block-level PVCS infrastructure, land has been acquired for 113, 25 units are complete and 82 units are under construction. Of the 68 approved units of block-level onion storage structures, 50 are under construction and 10 are complete, while land for 8 units is yet to be available. Secretary of Cooperative Department Mr. Dharminder Singh, Additional Registrar Mr. Vikas Kumar Briar, Mr. Manoj Kumar Singh, Joint Registrar Kameshwar Thakur, Samresh Kumar, Nikesh Kumar, Mithilesh Kumar and concerned officers of the department were present in the meeting.
