Amidst the flood-hit situation of 15 districts of Bihar, there is a relief that the water levels of major rivers like Ganga, Gandak and Kosi are either receding or stable at some places. Along with this, the scope of relief and rescue work is being expanded day by day by the Disaster Management Department in the flood affected areas.
According to department officials, the water level of the Ganga was recorded at 36.80 at Sultanganj in Bhagalpur on Saturday evening and is trending lower. Along with this, the water level of Gandak river at Balmiki Nagar barrage and Kosi river at Veerpur barrage is stable. However, the gold water at Indrapuri Barrage is still rising. Along with this, Kosi in Baltara and Kursila, Old Gandak in Khagaria, Ganga in Digha, Gandhi Ghat, Hatida, Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon and Monger, Panpan in Sripalpur, Bagmati and Droli in Beniabad and Ghaghra in Siswan are still flowing above the danger mark.
A total of 48.22 lakh people of 574 gram panchayats under 87 blocks of 15 districts of Patna, Bhojpur, Saran, Vaishali, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Buxar, Samastipur, Monger, Katihar, Lakhisarai, Khagaria, Purnia, Madhepur are in flood-affected areas.
If we look at the data, so far 82.19 lakh flood victims have been provided food through 1248 community kitchens across the state. Apart from this, accommodation, food and medical facilities have been provided to 12,260 flood refugees through 13 relief camps. So far around 3.53 lakh polythene sheets, 59,500 dry ration packets, 1400 food packets and 11,424 quintals of cattle fodder have been distributed as relief items.
1794 government boats are being operated across the state to facilitate transportation. 27 teams of SDRF and 10 teams of NDRF are deployed in various districts for immediate relief and rescue. The Disaster Management Department is continuously monitoring the situation.
