A fire broke out at the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi as a result of a drone attack, but no casualties have been reported. In a statement issued by the Abu Dhabi government on social media, it was stated that the authorities in Abu Dhabi took action on the fire incident at the electrical generator in the outer part of the security perimeter inside the Barakah nuclear power plant in the Al Dhafra region, which occurred due to a drone attack. The statement said that there were no reports of anyone being injured in the incident and no effects were observed on the radiation levels from the nuclear power plant. The authorities said that all security measures have been taken and further details will be shared as they become available.
The United Arab Emirates' Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR) confirmed that the fire had no impact on the safety or core systems of the power plant and all units are operating normally. The Abu Dhabi authorities have directed citizens to obtain information only from official sources and avoid spreading any rumors or unverified information.
According to Al Jazeera's report, despite the ceasefire agreement between the US and Iran on April 8, drone attacks on the UAE continue intermittently. Iran had stated at the start of the war that it was targeting US bases and Israeli interests in Gulf countries, but most attacks were carried out in the UAE, resulting in strained relations between the two countries. The UAE also accused Iran last week of carrying out missile and drone attacks on the port of Fujairah, in which three Indian citizens were injured, and a fire was also reported at an oil refinery in the Fujairah Petroleum Industries Zone.
