Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on Monday unveiled a five-point plan to expand the high-quality medical tourism ecosystem in the country and establish it as a gateway for international health and wellness services of the highest quality, in which he prioritized skill development. Mr. Goyal presented a five-point plan to promote medical tourism while addressing the inaugural function of the 'Sanjayuni' program organized under the Bharat Health Global Expo-2026 in the capital. He said that the first priority in this regard is to train caregivers and get them formally certified. The sector must develop a skilled workforce capable of providing health services of international standards. As another point, he stressed the need to encourage more and more hospitals to connect to the 'Heal in India' gateway and publish treatment packages with honesty, ethics and transparency. He said that fraud or any wrongdoing in hospitals can damage the reputation, business and confidence of the country. As a third point, Mr. Goyal appealed to insurance companies and health-tech companies to develop such products and platforms. As a fourth point, he suggested organizing exhibitions and presentations around the world, establishing a network of facilitators and partnering and contracting with hospitals globally. As a fifth point, the minister advised the state governments to focus on quality in hospitals and wellness centers, expand their network, give global recognition to quality medical facilities and effectively promote these facilities for the welfare of patients. He said that medical tourism facilities should be extended to small and medium-sized cities as well. This will create employment opportunities, promote new economic activities and develop infrastructure. It will also help improve the quality of healthcare services for Indian patients.
