The Congress on Tuesday accused the government in the Lok Sabha of not being serious about education and merely enacting laws for show. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi, initiating the discussion on the 'Lok Prakash (Prohibition of Unfair Means) Amendment Bill, 2026', said the government is not serious about the education department and this bill is just a token measure. He said that two years ago, the same bill was introduced, at that time too, there was severe anxiety among the public about the examination system, but the government's big claims proved ineffective in practice. He said that in the 2024 NET paper leak case, charge sheets were filed against 47 people, but 42 of them were acquitted, while the other accused also got bail. He asked if the law was effective, then how did such a large-scale paper leak occur? According to him, this law was ineffective earlier and different results cannot be expected from it now. Gogoi alleged that the Education Minister has been consistently denying the paper leak incidents. He said that when the former Education Minister came to Parliament the previous day, he was welcomed as if he had achieved a big success. He criticized, saying that instead of improving the examination system, the Prime Minister advises youngsters to focus on Instagram. He said that two years ago, the Radha Krishnan committee was formed, but despite that, such a big paper leak came to the fore after two years. He demanded that the government explain to the House about the suspension of 47 employees from the National Testing Agency (NTA) recently. He said that the Director General of NTA was changed, but the Chairman was retained, because the government has confidence in him due to his association with a particular organization. The Congress leader alleged that the government does not want real reforms in the education department, because education is an important sector for the RSS, and the government wants to prepare its ideological workers for the future through education. According to him, the government is not concerned about the future of students, and the resignation of former Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has also not raised hopes of improvement in the education system. He said that due to education problems, youths across the country were forced to protest on the streets. The government should understand their pain. He said that in difficult circumstances, students spent nights on the streets and went on hunger strikes. According to him, today's youth is suffering from severe mental pressure and despair, resulting in a continuous increase in suicide cases among students.
