The Road Construction Department (RCD) has achieved another historic milestone in the direction of infrastructure development in Bihar and connecting the state with four-lane connectivity. Overcoming challenges, complex geographical conditions and administrative hurdles, the Monghyr-Mirza Chowki (Package 01-) Four Lane Project has now reached its final stage of success. More than 87.14 percent (21 km) of the 22.56 km long green field four-lane road from Janki Nagar in Mongir under construction at a total cost of Rs 845.27 crore has been completed. Officers say that vehicles will start galloping on this road by November 15, 2026. Road Construction Department Secretary Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal said that the construction of Munger-Mirza Chowki Package-1 was a challenging task for the Road Construction Department and the construction agency. Located near the Gangandi, the entire area was prone to severe flooding and waterlogging for three to four months in a year, completely restricting the availability of soil required for the construction of embankments. Also, a dispute over compensation with land owners initially stalled the 9.5 km long construction. The state government and the road construction department took a proactive approach to break the deadlock. An administrative decision dated 22 September 2023 resolved the land acquisition issues, and with the help of the district administration, land acquisition was completed in phases. Additionally, to meet soil shortage, pond ash supply was secured from NTPC, creating a strong embankment structure. As a result of prompt management and continuous efforts of the department, this dream project was completed. He informed that a major portion of the road has been completed, and currently, only the over bridge (ROB) approach road, underpass connectivity, and final concreting work in some limited areas are in progress, which will be completed ahead of schedule. Secretary Mr. Paul said that the completion of this project will permanently relieve Monger and its surrounding areas from old narrow roads and severe traffic jams. Travel from Monger to Bhagalpur, Banka, and the Jharkhand border will now be completed without any hitches in significantly less time. This four-lane road will directly connect Bihar to the neighboring state of Jharkhand (Mirza Chowki/Sahibganj), giving a new impetus to inter-state traffic and trade. Also, freight movement on this route will be cheaper and easier. The secretary said that the completion of the 22.56 km long four-lane project will facilitate market access for local agricultural products, minerals and industrial products, thereby creating new employment and business opportunities in the region.
