Bihar Health Minister Mr. Nishant took several important steps in the direction of promoting medical facilities during a one-day visit to Muzaffarpur on Thursday. Health Minister Shri Nishant inaugurated the state-of-the-art ICU complex at Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai unit of Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur under Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India. The opening of this new facility will help provide better critical care services to cancer patients in serious and complex situations.
On this occasion, the Health Minister inspected the hospital and reviewed various medical facilities including cancer treatment. They got information from the doctors and officers about the services provided to the patients, treatment arrangements, availability of medicines and plans for future development of the facilities.
Hospital Director Dr. Kumar Prabhash apprised the Health Minister and senior officials of the Health Department about the institution's journey so far, achievements and growing needs of cancer care in North Bihar.
Health Minister Mr. Nishant said that the Bihar government is continuously strengthening the cancer treatment facilities in the state. State-of-the-art cancer treatment facilities are being expanded in Muzaffarpur in collaboration with Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai.
He said that it is the government's priority that cancer patients of North Bihar do not have to go to the big cities of other states for better and world-class medical services. All possible support will be extended to Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur, so that patients can have access to advanced cancer treatment and critical care facilities close to their homes.
Expressing satisfaction over the progress of the hospital, the Health Minister said that the medical facilities, resources and treatment capacity will be increased here in the coming time.
After the program at Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital, Health Minister Shri Nishant visited Shri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH). Here he inaugurated a 30-bed Special Critical Care Unit.
The opening of the new critical care unit will help provide better and faster medical care to critically ill patients. This will enable patients from Muzaffarpur as well as various districts of North Bihar to benefit from high quality critical care services.
The Health Minister also inspected the medical services provided to the patients at SK Main CH and got information from the hospital management and doctors about the treatment arrangements, resources and patient facilities.
Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, Muzaffarpur, is a unit of the Tata Memorial Centre, Mumbai under the Department of Atomic Energy, Central Government. The center was established in the year 2018 and was inaugurated by the Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on 22 August 2025.
This institution is playing an important role in meeting the cancer care needs of the surrounding area including North Bihar. Major facilities like mammography, CT scan, digital X-ray, simulator scan, radiation therapy, chemotherapy, immunotherapy and brachytherapy are available here along with cancer treatment.
Dr Kumar Prabhash, director of the hospital, said the aim of the institute is to reduce the need for patients to travel to distant cities like Mumbai for cancer treatment and provide them with world-class cancer treatment close to their homes. He said that the number of patients coming to the hospital for treatment is constantly increasing. In view of this, work is being done to further expand the capacity and medical facilities of the institution.
