Hopes for playoffs intact for Rajasthan, defeat Lucknow

Jaipur: Rajasthan Royals defeated Lucknow Super Giants by seven wickets, thanks to half-centuries from Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel. Batting first, Lucknow scored 220 runs in 20 overs, losing five wickets. In response, Yashasvi and Veerabhu Suriyavanshi provided a great start for Rajasthan, and after Yashasvi's dismissal, Jurel took charge, helping Rajasthan achieve the target in 19.1 overs, losing three wickets.
With this win, Rajasthan has kept its hopes of making it to the playoffs alive. Following Rajasthan's win, Punjab Kings have slipped to fifth place in the points table. Three teams have already secured their spots in the playoffs, and now the battle for the remaining single berth is on between Rajasthan, Punjab, Chennai, Kolkata, and Delhi. Rajasthan's win has once again made the scenario interesting. With 14 points - achieved through seven wins and six losses in 13 matches - Rajasthan has moved to the fourth spot, while Punjab is at the fifth position with 13 points, having won six, lost six, and drawn one match in 13 games.
Chasing the target, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Veerabhu Suriyavanshi gave Rajasthan a fantastic start. Both batsmen played aggressively from the very first over, putting pressure on the Lucknow bowlers. However, Akash Singh provided Lucknow with their first breakthrough by dismissing Yashasvi. Yashasvi missed his half-century, scoring 43 runs off 23 balls, including eight fours and a six. Veerabhu then shifted gears and completed his fifty in 23 balls. Batting aggressively with Dhruv Jurel, he hit big shots against every Lucknow bowler who came his way. Jurel and Veerabhu scored 29 runs in the 12th over off Myank Yadav's bowling.
Mohsin Khan dealt a second blow to Rajasthan Royals by dismissing Veerabhu Suriyavanshi. Suriyavanshi was batting brilliantly and was on the verge of a century. However, on a delivery from Mohsin, he got caught by Abdul Samad. Veerabhu was dismissed after scoring 93 runs off 38 balls, including seven fours and 10 sixes. Mohsin had also given him a lifeline earlier, but Veerabhu failed to capitalize on it and missed his century. Veerabhu and Jurel shared a 105-run partnership for the second wicket in just 45 balls.
After Veerabhu's dismissal, Lohan Dreyer Pretorius also got run out. However, Jurel held the fort till the end. Jurel completed his half-century in 37 balls, which was his fifth half-century of the season. He returned unbeaten to the pavilion after guiding his team to victory. Jurel remained not out on 53 runs off 38 balls, including three fours and three sixes, while Donavon Ferreira returned unbeaten on 16 runs off 10 balls, which included a four and a six. For Rajasthan, Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 43 runs, and Lohan Dreyer Pretorius added 7 runs. For Lucknow, Akash and Mohsin took one wicket each.
With his powerful innings, Veerabhu Suriyavanshi has set a new record in the IPL. Veerabhu has become the first Indian to hit more than 50 sixes in a single IPL season. Moreover, Veerabhu is the second-highest six-hitter in an IPL season. So far, in the current season, Veerabhu has hit 53 sixes. In doing so, he has surpassed Andre Russell, who hit 52 sixes in the 2019 season. Chris Gayle tops this list, having hit 59 sixes in 2012.
Earlier, Rajasthan won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis provided a great start for Lucknow, batting aggressively from the very first ball. As a result, Rajasthan failed to take a single wicket during the power play. Inglis and Marsh shared a 109-run partnership for the first wicket in just 50 balls. While Inglis hit seven fours and three sixes, Marsh entertained the crowd with his pull shots. This partnership was finally broken by Yash Raj Panwar, who dismissed Inglis after scoring 60 runs off 29 balls.
