Dhruv Jural (115 not out) led India to a mammoth 503 for 9 on the second day of the second Test on Monday to declare their first innings. Sri Lanka responded by losing 2 wickets for just 8 runs by the end of the game. Prasad Krishna and Manu Suthar took one wicket each. Sri Lanka are currently 495 runs behind India's score. The first 2 days of this match have been entirely in India's name. The rain certainly wasted a lot of time on the second day. Rain is expected to continue for the next 3 days. In such a situation, Indian bowlers will try their best to wrap up Sri Lanka's first innings as soon as possible. India had strengthened their grip on the match by scoring 475 runs for 8 wickets against Sri Lanka till the tea break. The second session ended early due to rain, Dhruv Jural was playing on 95 runs. Jorrell, who was not out on 59 at the lunch break, held the innings and was just 5 runs away from his second Test century when play was stopped due to rain in 131.2 overs. However, he completed his century when play resumed after the tea break. Jural hit 9 fours and 2 sixes in his innings of 115 not out off 177 balls. Along with him, Prasad Krishna was not out for 4 runs. As soon as Prasad completed India's 500 runs with a four, skipper Shubman Gill immediately motioned for the duo to return. After the lunch break, India's seventh wicket fell to Rishabh Pant. Pant played an innings of 63 runs in 89 balls hitting 6 fours and 2 sixes. Manu Suthar, who came in to support Jorel after Pant's dismissal, scored a patient 18 off 51 balls, but was caught by Prabhat Jayasuriya's wicketkeeper Nirushan Dakwila. Earlier, Pant and Jorel had put on a crucial seventh-wicket partnership of 112 runs off 152 balls, which lifted India from a difficult situation after the dismissal of Saranish Jain. Score crossed 400. Before being dismissed, Pant completed his 21st Test half-century in 81 balls, while Jural scored his third half-century in 97 balls. At the lunch break, India were 6/419 after 112 overs; Pant was playing on 63 and Jural 59 runs. The visitors then added another 56 runs before play was stopped due to rain. When rain forced the players off the field, Jural was not out on 95 and Mohammad Siraj was yet to score a run. Asita Fernando took 4 wickets for Sri Lanka. Prabhat Jayasuriya and Keshra Navanta took 2 wickets each. Lahiru Kumara dismissed a batsman.
