Virat and Gill century, India beat West Indies by 8 wickets

Awaz E Bihar•27 September 2026 at 04:56 pm•0 views•3 min read

Star batsman Virat Kohli (139 not out) and skipper Shubman Gill (110) scored brilliant centuries as India trounced West Indies by eight wickets with 50 balls to spare in the first one-day international on Sunday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
Although West Indies made a strong score of 295 for seven in 50 overs thanks to a brilliant century by Justin Graves (101), their bowling did not have the strength to stop India. India scored 300 runs for the loss of two wickets in 41.4 overs to secure a one-sided win.
It's still time for Diwali, but Kohli had a blast today. West Indies started the innings with a bang, but then their innings faltered and they could not even touch the 300 mark. Rohit and Gill gave a solid start to India in the first 10 overs. Gill scored a brilliant century while playing the captain's innings, while Kohli showed his class and scored 139 not out. Kohli did not give the visiting team a chance to recover while raining sixes. Gill hit 13 fours and a six off 108 balls while Virat was more aggressive, hitting 10 fours and nine sixes off just 88 balls. Virat ended the match by hitting two consecutive sixes. During his innings, Virat achieved the milestone of scoring 15 thousand ODI runs. He became the second batsman after legend Sachin Tendulkar to achieve this feat. Rohit Sharma scored a quick 32 and Rituraj Gaikwad scored 13 not out.
Rohit and Gill got off to a flying start and put on 70 runs in the first powerplay. Rohit fell victim to Alzari and then Gill and Kohli came together. The India skipper found life on 11 runs and took full advantage of it; He scored his seventh 50 in 9 ODIs this year. He scored a brilliant century while battling cramps. On the other hand, Kohli showed his brilliance. He made quick runs without wasting time, became the second batsman to reach 15,000 runs in ODIs, didn't spare any West Indies bowler, scored his 55th ODI century and hit 9 sixes to complete another successful run chase.
When the West Indies were batting, the score of 300 seemed like a mere formality, but in the end they fell short by 5 runs. After deciding to bowl, the power play was difficult for the hosts. Not only did they fail to take any wickets, but they also struggled to get hold of the game as the West Indies scored 85 runs in the first 10 overs.
Justin Graves played aggressively and was well supported by John Campbell; Both the openers scored half-centuries and shared a century partnership. In the 20th over, Campbell (62) fell victim to Kuldeep and the team got their first win. Carty Ley, who came in at third place, seemed to struggle to make ends meet and the scoring rate dropped. Only two boundaries were hit between the 20th and 30th overs. Carty got out after scoring 13 runs in 31 balls. While Greaves scored his maiden ODI century (Greaves hit 12 fours in 101 off 108 balls), Kuldeep took three wickets in six balls to take West Indies to 198/5. Things could have been worse for the visitors, but Amir Jango played a useful innings - his second ODI half-century - and took the West Indies close to 300.
For India, Kuldeep Yadav took four wickets for 40 runs, Prasad Krishna took two wickets for 60 runs and Nitish Kumar Reddy took one wicket for 45 runs.
