If anyone talks about throwing Muslims out of India, he is not a Hindu: Bhagwat

Awaz E Bihar•30 August 2026 at 06:50 pm•23 views•6 min read

Sarsingh Chalak Mohan Bhagwat of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) has emphasized on the self-respect and human unity of every human being and said that denying the existence of a person on the basis of his religion cannot be a Hindutva thought and if a person talks about throwing Muslims out of India, he cannot be a Hindu.
Mr. Bhagwat spoke on various topics including religion, environment, humanitarianism, duty and Hindutva at the 'One World One Humanity' program at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA on Saturday night. During his nearly 42-minute address, he mentioned an old conversation where some people from the Muslim community had asked him that RSS is a Hindu organization and talks about Hindu Rashtra, so what about Muslims? Will they be thrown out of India? "I replied to them that it is not Hindutva to do so. If a Hindu thinks that there should be no Muslim in India, then he is not a Hindu," he said.
Meanwhile, the Sangh chief explained the meaning of Hindutva and said that Hindutva is different from the idea of expelling any class. All paths lead to the same goal i.e. Ishwar and every human being has a self-respect. He said that unity and diversity are in the 'DNA' of India. People look different, they have their own ways of living, but there is an innate connection between all.
Mr. Bhagwat said that unity in diversity is the traditional thought of India and the country has been making this sense to the whole world from time to time. He said that the ability to think is a blessing for man. Right thinking brings man closer to God, while wrong thinking brings him closer to animals.
He said that in the present era, religions in the world are mainly recognized by customs and traditions. This discipline of rituals is very important to follow a religious discipline and follow this path to reach Ashwara. He said, "I am not a religious expert or a religious leader, but I am working in a society that says religions may be different, but humanity is one. Truth is one and humanity is a product of that truth. Truth is defined in many ways."
He added, "If we don't continuously educate the society, it becomes deficient or goes astray. Something like that happened throughout history. I can't point to the exact moment, but then our society and our country became victims of foreign invasions and many things were lost."
He said that there are two trends in the world at present, one saying-"Live and let live", and the other saying-"Live and let live only those who obey us." People who say we will protect you if you listen to us make the protection of others conditional on their own. Those who protect only those who obey their word are called 'Rakshas'."
The Sangh leader emphasized the need for a way of thinking in contrast to this way of thinking, in which it does not matter whether the other person believes someone or not, listens to someone or not, what they think about someone or how useful they are to someone. "The most important thing is that we are all human," he said. In order to sustain life, it is necessary to live with brotherhood and mutual dependence."
He said that although there are many material and social differences between people in the world, there is one element in all human beings. He said, “We are united by unity and blessed by diversity. Diversity is natural and unity is truth."
He said that the principle which unites all, includes all within itself, does not create any division, maintains balance between all and shows the middle path, is Dharma (religion). He said that the principle which is called Dharma in India, should not be understood only as religion or worship. Religion is the system that governs the universe and life. It helps to maintain balance between different situations in life. Money, goods and other material comforts cannot always bring happiness. Materialism is transitory and there may be a lack of contentment despite having many amenities. Mastrabhagwat said, “There are four stages in human life - brahmacharya, grhastha, vanprastha and sannyas. It is important to learn first, then manage the family and society and later pass on our experiences to the next generation."
Emphasizing the need for environmental protection, the Sangh chief said that just as we remember our responsibility towards our parents by celebrating 'Father's Day' and 'Mother's Day', we should also remember our responsibility towards the environment. He said that before a person can eat food, there must be agriculture in the world. If farmers stop farming, what will people have left to eat? He said that neither the individual nor the society should be suppressed for development. The good of the individual, society and the environment must go hand in hand.
Referring to the role of Indian diaspora around the world, Mr. Bhagwat said that they should maintain complete loyalty to the land of their work. At the same time, they should continue to live according to the values of their place of birth. He said that this is what India expects from its immigrants.
More than 5,000 Indian Americans participated in this program. It was organized by 'American Hindus for Engagement and Dialogue' (AHEAD). 180 religious leaders from 30 countries had arrived to participate in it.
Mr. Bhagwat meanwhile proposed a 'Call for Action' and religious leaders announced a 5-point action plan taking responsibility for the future. This action plan includes the prevention of abuse of religion, one world, one humanity, commitment to security, responsibility towards the future and respect for diversity.
World religious leaders made it clear that religion cannot be used to justify any form of hatred, insult, inhumane treatment or violence. Along with this, the concept of 'One World, One Humanity' was strongly supported. Apart from this, it was decided to stand united for the honor and security of any class. World religious leaders accept their moral responsibility to future generations amid current global challenges. There, diversity was described as natural and unity as the only truth. The ceremony was preceded by a Raksha Bandhan festival, where people tied rakhis to each other and gave a message of unity.
