If the US attacks Iran's nuclear facilities, it will be considered an attack on US and its allies' interests in the region, Iran's Khatam al-Anbia Central Headquarters said. The command said in a statement on Tuesday, "We clarify that if the aggressor forces take such a step, we will consider it a move to expand the war in the region and all US and allied interests in the region will be targeted by our military's severe and intense attacks."
Earlier, Iranian Army spokesman Mohammad Akraminia said the army had received a new air defense system. According to the IRNA news agency, Akraminia said, "This new air defense system has significantly increased our defense capabilities. We are now much more capable of countering enemy aircraft." He added that Iran had successfully repaired its air defense system damaged during tensions with the US.
The US military has launched several attacks on Iran since July 8. US Central Command claimed the attacks were in response to Iran's actions against commercial ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz. Meanwhile, the Iranian military responded by attacking US bases in several Middle Eastern countries.
US President Donald Trump said on July 9 that a ceasefire with Iran was no longer in effect. The Iranian armed forces headquarters warned that any US attack on the country's nuclear or other sensitive facilities would lead to regional attacks, targeting US interests as well as those of Washington's allies and supporters.
The armed forces headquarters said in a briefing that such a move would be seen as an expansion of the war in the region and would prompt a "severe" response from the military. This warning came after US President Donald Trump threatened to attack Iran's Natanz nuclear complex and underground "Kazem" facilities.
Trump said the US would strike the region very hard. He also claimed that Iran had likely moved nuclear centrifuges to the region, although Washington has not confirmed this information. Iran's Revolutionary Guards had previously announced that they had destroyed an early warning radar, a tactical radar complex near Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait, and another radar system on Kuwait's Bubyan Island during the 24th phase of the "Nasr 2 Operation".
The Revolutionary Guards said the radar systems had been neutralized, and military operations against the US would continue. The US has intensified its attacks on Iran since last week, while Tehran has responded by targeting facilities and bases it claims the US military is using in various regional countries.
The mutual attacks between the US and Iran come despite a ceasefire agreement brokered by Pakistan in June, aimed at ending the war that began in February and reaching a permanent peace deal. According to Iranian state media reports, Major General Amir Hatami said in a recent statement, "We knew the enemy would not abide by the agreement, we also knew the enemy would commit foolishness."
The Iranian Army Chief added, "We did not waste a single moment and took measures to increase our war capabilities. If the enemy sets foot on Iranian soil, it will face millions of people. The Iranian military and people will counter the enemy by all means possible."
