In the fiscal year 2025-26, the Registration Department set a new record by collecting over 101 percent of its revenue target

Patna: The Department of Prohibition, Excise, and Registration has set a new record in the field of document registration. In the financial year 2025-26, the department earned revenue of Rs 8,403.46 crore, which is 101.86 percent of the fixed target of Rs 8,250 crore. For the financial year 2026-27, a historic revenue target of Rs 10,000 crore has been set. Minister of the department, Brijendra Prasad Yadav, shared this information while addressing a press conference held on Monday.
The minister stated that on the last day of the financial year 2025-26, specifically on March 31, a total of 14,905 documents were registered in a single day, generating revenue of Rs 107.74 crore. Furthermore, the department collected revenue of Rs 80.38 crore on March 25, Rs 85.06 crore on March 28, Rs 83.91 crore on March 29, and Rs 94.20 crore on March 30, showcasing impressive performance.
Meanwhile, the goal is to complete the digitization of approximately 5 crore documents from 1908 to 1994 by the end of the current financial year. Additionally, 10,259 marriages were registered under the Special Marriage Act, 1954, during the previous financial year, and 2,648 marriages were solemnized. Moreover, 289 institutions and 306 were also registered under it.
The minister informed that so far, 7,86,037 documents have been registered in the name of women, involving the transfer of a total of 60,89,589 acres of land. The department is developing a mobile application to minimize human intervention in land-related works. Through this application, e-filing will be done in a transparent manner by capturing longitude and latitude coordinates. Furthermore, Geographic Information System (GIS) technology will be used for verification of land categories.
Secretary of the department, Ajay Yadav, provided detailed information about the actions taken to enforce the ban on liquor. He stated that between April 1, 2016, and March 2026, a total of 1,137,731 cases related to the liquor ban were registered. Of these, 560,639 cases were registered by the department, and 577,092 cases were registered by the police. During this period, a total of 17,18,058 accused were arrested.
As a result of enforcement operations, 24,273,895 bulk liters of country-made liquor and 24,046,354 bulk liters of foreign liquor were seized. The secretary noted that between January 1, 2022, and March 2026, a total of 164,474 raids were conducted using drones. These actions resulted in the registration of 8,834 cases and the arrest of 5,090 accused. During this period, 5,174,548 liters of liquor and 366 vehicles were seized, and 3,926.88 lakh kilograms of "jawa" (fermenting mash) were destroyed.
He further stated that in the areas of waterways and "diara" (rivers), between February 2022 and March 2026, a total of 80,353 raids were conducted. These actions resulted in the registration of 2,524 cases, the arrest of 1,364 individuals, and the seizure of 1,643,314 liters of liquor. Additionally, 1,256.15 lakh kilograms of "mahua" were destroyed.
From January 1, 2023, to March 2026, a total of 178,068 cases were registered and 292,039 accused were arrested at 84 check posts (including 67 inter-state posts). Yadav stated that by March 2026, approximately 98 percent of the seized liquor had been destroyed. Between April 1, 2016, and March 2026, a total of 167,447 vehicles were seized. Of these, 80,207 vehicles have been auctioned, and 25,232 vehicles have been released after payment of fines.
