India on verge of series win, do-or-die situation for Zimbabwe

Awaz E Bihar•24 July 2026 at 05:28 pm•16 views•3 min read

The Indian team will take to the field on Saturday in the second T20 International against Zimbabwe, where its sights will be set on winning the series, while for the host Zimbabwe, the contest has become a "do or die" affair. A defeat in the match to be played at the Harare Sports Club will also mean Zimbabwe losing the series.

The young Indian team, led by Shreyas Iyer, had taken a 1-0 lead in the series with a resounding seven-wicket victory in the first T20. Thanks to excellent performances in both batting and bowling, India can take an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series with another win, while Zimbabwe may face defeat in another home series.

The foundation of India's victory in the first match was aggressive batting and disciplined bowling. Young opener Vibhu Suryavanshi tore apart Zimbabwe's bowling attack by scoring his first international half-century off just 19 balls. Ishan Kishan scored 35, while captain Shreyas Iyer remained not out on 28, and the two took the team to the target of 126 runs with just three wickets lost and 40 balls to spare.

Earlier, India's young fast bowlers had put Zimbabwe's batting line under pressure from the start. Mankad Yadav took a wicket off the first ball of the match, dismissing Brian Bennett, and finished with two wickets for 18 runs, earning him the Player of the Match award. Prince Yadav also took two wickets, while Ravi Bishnoi and Shivam Dube took one each, restricting Zimbabwe to 125 for seven.

After this victory, India's emerging young players have caught everyone's attention. Harare has once again become a platform for India's new generation of players to showcase their skills, where Vibhu Suryavanshi and Mankad Yadav are again expected to lead the team's charge.

On the other hand, the situation is clear for Zimbabwe. If it loses this match, it will also lose the series. After Brian Bennett was dismissed off the first ball of the innings in the first match, Sikandar Raza's team could not recover. Wesley Madhevere scored 39, Tadiwanashe Marumani 27, and Ryan Burl 26, offering some resistance, but they could not take the team to a big score.

The host team will expect a much better performance from its top order this time, while fast bowlers Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava will have to take early wickets to control India's aggressive batsmen.

A balanced contest between bat and ball is expected on the Harare Sports Club pitch, with the weather also likely to remain clear. Although the team batting first has generally had an advantage on this field, India's easy victory in the first match showed that the pitch remains favorable for batting throughout the match. The Indian team, entering the match with strong form and confidence, is again considered the favorite, while Zimbabwe has no other option but to make a comeback. If it wants to take the series to the third and decisive T20, it will have to put up an extraordinary performance in all departments.
