Islamabad: What was being expected has finally happened. A very bad news is coming from Islamabad, which states that due to the stubbornness of the US and the insistence of Iran, the talks between Washington and Tehran have failed. According to reports, despite 21 hours of marathon talks between the US and Iran, no agreement has been reached, meaning the talks have been completely inconclusive.
US Vice President Jay Dee Vines said in a press conference in Islamabad that we came here with an open heart, but now we are returning to the US without any agreement. On the other hand, according to Iran's official news agency 'Tasnim', the US's excessive demands are a major obstacle to the joint framework and agreement.
In the press conference, Vines said that the good news is that we have had meaningful talks with the Iranians on many issues. The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I am sure this is worse news for Iran than for the US. Vines said that they have presented their 'final and best offer', but Iran has currently refused to accept the US terms.
Vines said in a strong tone that the US has made its 'red lines' clear. He said that we have made it clear what we can compromise on and what we cannot. The Iranian delegation has chosen not to accept our terms. The most prominent and tough condition of the US in these talks was regarding nuclear weapons. The US said that it needs a guarantee that Iran will never try to make nuclear weapons in the future.
The US emphasized that it has been flexible and has presented an 'easy proposal' and a 'mutually understandable point of view', but no compromise can be made on nuclear security. He said that we have been working on this for the past 21 hours and have had very important talks with Iran, which is good news, and the bad news is that we could not reach an agreement. I believe this is worse news for Iran than for the US.
Therefore, we are returning to the US because no agreement has been reached. They have refused to accept our proposal. Vines said that the simple fact is that we need a clear commitment that Iran will not try to acquire nuclear weapons and will not seek the resources to quickly develop nuclear weapons. This is the basic goal of the US President. This is what we are trying to achieve through these talks.
The US Vice President said that their nuclear program, whatever it was, and the enrichment facilities that existed before, have been destroyed, but the real question is whether we see from Iran the basic willingness and commitment that it will not develop nuclear weapons, not just now or 2 years from now, but for a long time? So far, we have not seen this, but we hope that we will see it.
