Modi arrives in Jordan in first leg of three-nation tour

Amman, 15 December (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Amman, the capital of Jordan, on the first leg of his three-nation tour on Monday. He was warmly received by Jordanian Prime Minister Jafar Hassan at the airport. A guard of honor was also presented to Mr. Modi. The Prime Minister left New Delhi this morning on a four-day tour of three countries - Jordan, Ethiopia, and Oman. In his departure statement, he said that India has ancient civilizational and wide contemporary bilateral relations with all three countries and his historic visit will mark the completion of 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. The Prime Minister has come to Jordan at the invitation of King Abdullah II Ibn Al-Hussein. He will have extensive talks with him and Mr. Hassan and is expected to meet Crown Prince Al-Hussein bin Abdullah II. Mr. Modi will also meet members of the Indian community in Jordan. Mr. Modi will leave for Ethiopia on his first visit tomorrow. He is visiting the country at the invitation of the Ethiopian Prime Minister. Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, is also the headquarters of the African Union. In 2023, during India's G20 presidency, the African Union was inducted as a permanent member of the G20. In Addis Ababa, he will hold talks with Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed Ali and meet Indians living there. Mr. Modi will also address a joint session of the Ethiopian Parliament. On the last leg of his tour, Mr. Modi will visit Oman. The visit will take place on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He will discuss ways to strengthen strategic and economic partnerships with the Sultan of Oman. He will also address the Indian community in Oman.
