Patna, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Chief Minister Smarat Choudhary proved its majority in the special session of the Bihar Assembly on Friday. The no-confidence motion was passed by voice vote in the House without any voting, thereby enabling the Smarat Choudhary government to secure a confidence vote. All MLAs of NDA allies announced their support for the government one by one, resulting in the easy passage of the confidence motion.
Smarat Choudhary had taken oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar on April 15, replacing Nitish Kumar. Vijay Kumar Choudhary and Bijendra Prasad Yadav from the Janata Dal United (JDU) quota had taken oath as Deputy Chief Ministers along with him. During the one-day special session of the Assembly, while speaking on the confidence motion, Chief Minister Smarat Choudhary thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, BJP National President Nitan Naveen, former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, and senior NDA leaders.
In his address, he said that the post of Chief Minister is not inherited, and he has become the Chief Minister with the support and blessings of 14 crore people. Targeting the opposition, he said that power cannot be the fiefdom of one family or individual. Smarat Choudhary also attacked Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad Yadav, saying that the atrocities during his rule strengthened his political career. He claimed that Lalu Yadav had put him and 22 members of his family in jail and later openly admitted his mistakes and apologized.
Outlining the priorities of his government, the Chief Minister said that his government will not compromise on "Triple CS: Crime, Corruption, and Communalism". He said that those who commit crimes against women will not be spared under any circumstances. The Chief Minister said that "our police will track down those who commit crimes against women, even from the underworld". Smarat Choudhary also said that the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) will directly monitor the delivery of better public services at the block, circle, and police station levels. Systems like the Right to Public Service Act, Land Portal, e-Mutation, and e-Mapping will be made more effective.
Making a significant public interest announcement, the Chief Minister said that the family of a road accident victim will now be provided with a total of Rs 8 lakh. This amount will be paid in the form of Rs 4 lakh from the insurance company and Rs 4 lakh from the state government. Earlier, while speaking on the no-confidence motion in the Assembly, Opposition Leader Tejashwi Yadav said that the BJP has "finished" Nitish Kumar. This statement led to a huge uproar in the House.
Later, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Choudhary became emotional while speaking in the House. Remembering Nitish Kumar, he said that he regrets that the "veteran leader" is not present in the House and has become a member of another House. He said that there is a feeling of emptiness in the House. Just as everyone benefits from the light of a lamp, everyone used to benefit from him, but that lamp is no longer in the House. Bihar's politics and governance are moving forward based on the light of that lamp.
Finally, Chief Minister Smarat Choudhary presented the outline of the government's working and reiterated his commitment to development, good governance, and public welfare. He also responded to Tejashwi Yadav while attacking the opposition.
