Nitish Kumar, Harivansh sworn in as members of Rajya Sabha

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and outgoing Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh took oath as members of the Rajya Sabha on Friday. Vice President and Rajya Sabha Chairman CP Radhakrishnan administered the oath to them in the Parliament House. On the occasion, Leader of the House and Health and Family Welfare Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman; Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Rajiv Ranjan (also known as Lalan Singh); Congress Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh; and Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi were among those present. After completing his previous term on 9 April, 69-year-old Harivansh was nominated by President of India Droupadi Murmu today. A seat had fallen vacant after the tenure of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi in the Rajya Sabha. The President of India can nominate 12 members to the Rajya Sabha. These members are chosen on the basis of their outstanding services in the fields of art, literature, science, and social service.
