SIR: Notices to several personalities including Advani, Jaishankar

Awaz E Bihar•21 September 2026 at 04:07 pm•25 views•3 min read

During the special detailed revision (SIR) of voter list in Delhi, the names of many well-known faces have been included in the list of voters who have been issued notices by the election authorities.
Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Lal Krishna Advani, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, former Vice President Jagdeep Dhunkhar, former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Rajya Sabha MP Kapil Sibal, former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia have been issued SIR notices. Most of these are cases where the current voter record could not be linked with the voter list of the previous SIR conducted in 2002 or inconsistencies were found in the details. The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Delhi on September 18 released the polling station-wise list of about 33.1 lakh voters under the SIR to whom notices have been sent. This number is more than one-third of the nearly 97.5 lakh voters included in Delhi's draft voter list. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and his wife Kyoko Jaishankar have received the notice. Both records are placed in the "Unmapped with Last SIR" category. The names of Mr. Kejriwal and some of his family members could not be mapped in the previous SIR. Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhunkhar and his wife Sudesh Dhunkhar have also received notice. Inconsistency was revealed in linking the information entered in their voter record with the voter list of the previous SIR.
The Chief Electoral Officer of Delhi said on September 20 that notices are being issued to two categories of voters in the draft voter list. In the first category are voters whose records could not be linked to the voter list of the previous detailed revision. In the second category are voters whose linking details are found to have logical inconsistencies. The commission said these are system-generated notices and are meant to correct the data. Issuance of notice does not mean that the name of the concerned voter will be removed from the voter list.
According to the commission, voters whose name or details do not match the previous SIR list will have to produce one of the 12 documents prescribed by the Election Commission to prove their eligibility. There, 'voters falling under the category of logical inconsistency have to verify their existing information. The purpose of this process is to verify the details entered in the voter list and ensure the names of the eligible voters. According to the commission's schedule, the verification of these matters is to be completed by October 29. After that, the final voter list of Delhi will be released on November 4. Documents and details of voters notified during the SIR process will be verified by the concerned election authorities.
