US President Donald Trump has said that the US will not lift its blockade of Iranian ports until an agreement is reached with Iran. According to a BBC report, Mr. Trump's statement comes at a time when there is uncertainty about whether new talks will take place between the two countries to end the war. He wrote on his social media platform 'Truth Social' that the blockade, which began a week ago, is completely destroying Iran and the US is far ahead in the conflict.
It is worth noting that a temporary ceasefire between the US and Iran is set to expire on Wednesday, but there is no certainty that the second round of peace talks in Pakistan will go ahead. In anticipation of the meeting, strict security arrangements have been made in the Pakistani capital, but US Vice President Jay D. Vines has not yet left for Washington, while Iran says it has not yet decided whether to participate. Mr. Vines will lead the US delegation in the talks between the two countries.
According to the US Central Command (Centcom), since the blockade began, the US military has ordered 27 ships to turn back or change course towards an Iranian port. The US has also stopped and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship for the first time during the conflict. The ship had attempted to breach the blockade on Sunday. A video shared by Centcom appears to show the ship being warned before troops boarded it.
Referring to the attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities in June 2025, he said yesterday that Operation "Midnight Hammer" was the complete destruction of nuclear sites in Iran. The US president has long maintained that the attacks destroyed Iran's nuclear program, while recently he described the uranium stockpile as "dirt" and said it would be difficult to excavate.
These statements come ahead of possible high-level talks in Pakistan. Trump announced on Sunday that US representatives would travel to Islamabad for talks, but Tehran has not yet formally confirmed its participation and has demanded the lifting of the US blockade of the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan hosted the first high-level direct talks between the US and Iran in Islamabad on April 11-12, which was the first contact between the two countries since diplomatic relations were severed in 1979, but the talks ended without progress.
In a radio interview, Donald Trump expressed hope that fair negotiations would lead to a deal and the Iranian leadership would take positive steps for the betterment of their country. He clarified that Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons, and if Iran is allowed to build nuclear bombs, it would be disastrous for the world.
The US president said that the US currently controls the Strait of Hormuz and the blockade is causing Iran losses of around $500 million a day. The US goal is to end the war so that everyone is happy. He said there was no choice but to take military action in Iran, "we had no choice, so we took action, we did a good job, and we will finish it, we will end the war, everyone will be happy, and after a deal with Iran, commodity and energy prices will come down."
Trump said that Iran cannot be allowed to have nuclear weapons under any circumstances, and if Iran had nuclear weapons, it would first target the Middle East and Israel, and then come to the US. The US president said that the issue with Iran is almost resolved, and wars in Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq lasted for many years, but the US is resolving the Iran war in 2-3 months. If Iran is allowed to have nuclear bombs, it would be disastrous for the world.
Meanwhile, in a social media post, the US president said that Democrats are trying to undermine the strong US position on the Iran issue. He said that World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, and the Iraq war lasted for years, but he had given a 6-week timeline for the end of the Iran war, and the result came much sooner.
He said the US will not rush into a bad deal, and the fake news media says he is under pressure for a deal, which is not true, and he is not under any pressure. The important thing is that he has done what no US president has done in 47 years, and he will not let Democrats and traitors who downplay his success succeed.
